Hehe, yeah. I'm American myself, but, sorry to say, I really agree with the monster's choice in this.

I haven't heard the Devo version.

I think I know what happened. The song was originally written in Japanese, by Japanese, and then translated into English.

When you translate a song from one language into another, the words don't rhyme aymore, and lines like "the words get stuck in my throat", which may sound fine if it were sung in Japanese (and I don't speak Japanese, so I don't know), just doesn't work in an English song. A song translated from one language into another can never be as good as the original without major lyric revision.

I did a little research, but could find nothing that would indicate that the song was originally written in japanese. God, then it's even worse than I thought.
