Many years ago I saw a movie on TMC and I can't remember the name of it and am dying to see it again but since I can't remember the name there is little chance.

It was Russian with subtitles and mostly B&W but with some color sometimes. There were these guys who decided to go on a quest for something so they took off and walked around deserted bombed out looking buildings forever. I think I was stoned when I saw it so my memory may be hazy but they eventually found a building with some pools of water in it with a technicolor fish!

It seemed like about 3 hours of walking around. Does anyone know of this movie? If so tell me and help me preserve my sanity. :D

Sounds like you were in a drug induced dream. How far did you walk in those 3 hours anyway? :D

Maybe more than one movie?

Rumble fish was shot primarily in B&W but included splashes of color, including a "technicolor" fish.

That sounds like Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky, who made the original Solaris. I believe part of the film is shot in B&W with some color and it is Russian. Also, the reason why it seemed like it was 3 hours long was because it almost was: IMDB has it's running length at 163 minutes, or 2 and 3/4 hours.

That's it! Thanks! Now after going to Amazon.com to buy it I can finally sleep in peace. :)

It was indeed Stalker. My rush order to Amazon got it here it time and let me say I was mesmerized the entire 2 hours and 45 minutes despite my husbands snores after 20 minutes of it. Stalker has to be the slowest moving movie of all time and even the people in it move slowly but that is part of its appeal. I am still sitting here in awe hours after seeing it. For people used to action films I would hardly recommend it but for people who like amazing images I sure would.

And yes ZuZu I did confuse the fish with Rumble Fish. The fish in Stalker looked like a carp with no special colors.

Rent it before you buy it. :)

i think i've heard of 'stalker' as part of his catalog; i once saw his original 'solaris', and can definitely vouch that it out-kubrick's kubrick, in terms of space-like pacing (but, yes, is better than the soderberg remake - the pace really seemed appropriate for the gravity/weight of the emotional story)

i'll have to see if the local kick-ass public library has it and check it out sometime... (if it's foreign, they got it:)

30 or so cups of coffee will enchance your movie viewing experience. Stalker is a hard movie to handle but once you get with it, with your first 20 cups of coffee, you will breeze through it.

I looked through the extras and Amazon and the English title Stalker doesn't seem to be the right term. I think that Russian guy meant something like pathfinder or guide. That's my 2 cents.
