Wow, that was cool. I did damage to my left ear when I was very young and can't hear very well on the lower spectrums (meaning, I don't hear men's voices very well
). I was able to hear all of the frequencies on the site, probably due to some over-compensation in my right ear - who knows._____________________

(meaning, I don't hear men's voices very well )I thought that was just a chromosone thing. Oh, wait, I'm thinking of the wrong way. Nevermind. |

Interesting. I couldn't hear anything past 16000, so I turned up the volume a bit. There was no sound but my ears sure hurt!
I heard about this device mentioned in the blog. It seems to me that if it is loud enough to annoy children, it is probably damaging eardrums and giving everyone headaches, even if they don't hear the sound. _____________________

Weird... with the fans going in here I can hear 19K and 21K perfectly, but I can't hear 20K at all. Fans must be cancelling it out.

Ok this is odd...I am completely deaf in my left ear and have been since birth, yet was able to detect all of these with my headset on. Am I doing something wrong??

I could hear up to the 14khz range with speakers, but up to the 16khz range with headphones.

Played the lot at normal volume, didn't hear a thing, even at 10000. Turned up the volume at 10k and OWWWW. I think I just ruined my ability to hear that pitch with this test.
Of course, I have recurring intermittent bouts of phantom noises or whatever the technical term is. My hearing has been messed up more or less since I was aware that my ears exist. |

Results in the highest ranges may be unreliable...

Because of limitations in typical computer sound cards, and especially the ones built into motherboards and laptops, results from this test above 16,000Hz may not reflect reality. Most computer sound cards use a sample rate of 44.1KHz (just like CDs), and thus have to have some form of anti-aliasing filter with a cutoff somewhere in the neighborhood of 20KHz. But the filters in cheap computer sound interfaces aren't always designed well; they may cut off (or at least attenuate significantly) below that frequency, or have response anomalies (which could account for the person who heard the 19 and 21KHz tones, but not the 20KHz one).
Not hearing the highest tones through speakers, especially cheap ones, may also reflect limitations of the speakers rather than your ears. |

That could be it too. I never did invest in decent PC speakers.

Yikes, I couldn't hear anything past 14k. Time to invest in some ear horns.
