So, it's a year tomorrow since terrorists detonated three bombs on London tube trains and one on a bus, killing fifty-two people and affecting the lives of countless thousands of others.
I don't want to dwell on the negatives. Things could have been much worse than they have been over the past year. I'm proud of the way the British people pulled together and (some might say, with the typical stiff upper lip!) didn't let these bombing bastards get in the way of daily life.
I'm proud of the resolve of the white and Asian people of the small town of Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, where several of the bombers were from and where life carries on much as before.
Most of all, I'm proud of the people of this country who are still protesting against the government and campaigning for civil liberties in the face of tightening legislation (ID cards, biometric passports etc.) following the bombings. We don't want to let the actions of a tiny minority of nutters affect the rest of us, stop us living our lives the way we want to. Britain is a free country, proud of its heritage, proud of its tradition of being a sanctuary for those from all around the world fleeing their countries for whatever reason.
This minor setback won't stop us.
