I just have to share this..

I am moving in RL, and I was going through the shed out back and found huge bags of crushed aluminum cans. I decided that I would take them to this cash-for-cans place I saw near here.

I walked up to the entrance (a big garage door that was open, with sorting and weighing equipment inside) and stood there, waiting for the person ahead of me to finish. Well the "gentleman" working there looks at me and yells at me to "get the fuck off my mats!" I looked down to see that I was standing on some greasy floor mats. I moved off the mats thinking to myself "aren't mats for standing on?" The mats were nasty and my clean and shiny new Adidas weren't going to cause them any harm...

Anyway, he asks what I have for him, and I replied "cans". He says "Well, where the fuck are they?" I replied "In my truck - I wanted to make sure you were buying first before I took them out of the truck, your sign says you don't always buy if you've had heavy business lately". He says, "Well, they ain't doin' me no good in your fuckin' truck!"

So I go get the 3 bags of cans and set them on the floor next to the conveyor belt that feeds cans to the scale. He says, "Is that all you fuckin' got? What a waste of my fuckin' time!"

So, he dumps them in the hopper, the conveyor moves, and a minute later he says "ok", and heads into the office, replete with 6 or 7 leaks in the ceiling being caught by buckets on the floor. (did I mention he was greasy from head to toe and smell like dung?) He pulls a printout off a 15 year old perf paper printer and licks his dirty ass fingers to seperate the copies, and hands me one... ewwww. Then he licks his finger again and digs into the cash drawer - and pays me in 2 dollar bills and 50 cent pieces! LOL. All the while, he is mumbling about how his dad told him that evolution sometimes skips a generation, and that I was one of the "suburban white boys whose generations was skipped" (he is also white, by the way). What the fuck?

Umm, is anyone else thinking that his dad's logic applies to him, and that maybe dad was saying it about HIM?

low self-esteem
05-01-2006 18:05
Low self-esteem causes people to sometimes lash out (outrageously, in this case). I always feel sorry for someone whose self esteem is so low that he or she can only feel better by belittling others. One may also assume this fellow was spoken to in such a manner his whole life by his parents. Sad stuff. Maybe next lifetime, he'll get lucky and be a newt or somesuch.

I would have turned around and walked out after the second outburst and found somewhere else to sell my cans. What an asshole. A RL griefer.

I find simply telling someone not to do something can be really effective. At the point where he said fuck to me the first time I would say, please do not swear at me. I find that offensive. Then, yeah, if he continued I would go someplace else AND report him to the better business bureau for being an anus. They let you report anuses in rl too, right? not just sl?

I've twice had that be really successful though (just asking to be treated the way I want to be) mainly because it is the last thing people expect. Shock alone often gets them to stfu. One time a man was riding his bike close to me late at night, apparently hoping to intimidate me, and making kissy noises at me. I spoke sternly to him and said "don't do that; you scared me." He was so shocked he damn near fell off his bike. Took him a full block to recover from the wobbles. :-)

Makes me wonder how he would have treated you, or another female. Maybe it would have been, "Sure, I'll weigh yer cans... if ya know what I mean!"

:p

Ewwww, thinking of you being groped by the guy Nolan described is ebven making ME sick.

If a man sexually harasses me, then I either sexually harass him back so he realizes he isn't intimidating me, or I call the police (never had to do that yet, but I would if I needed to).

Once a man in Spanish Harlem made kissy noises at me and said, "Lookin' good Mami!" Bear in mind that this wasn't just a compliment, but an assertion of "this is my space, not your space, and you should be uncomfortable when you tread here." I turned around, looked him up and down and went "Mmmm mmmm MMMM! You lookin good too Papi! MMHMM Dayamn sugarbuns!!!" He turned around and went into his shop.

Is it just me or does this person look like what would happen if Pat Morita (wax on wax off) and Patrick Swayze had a love child?

Am I the only one who read through that story thinking there was going to be a punchline at the end? The whole thing sounded like a setup for a joke. :D
