The Uglyness that is Mozilla

Hello,

Totally off-topic (thus the off-topic forum), but as many know, Internet Explorer for Macintosh is kaput. This is no biggie to me as it's really junky software. However, ... lots of sites don't work with Safari (Macs default browser), and I have been pointed towards Firefox by a ton of people as a "viable alternative."

The problem I have is that Firefox, like Netscape before it, is a geeks paradise and as such is possibly the ugliest browser ever made. (You geeky types may laugh, but if only you knew how much business you lose by not paying attention to things like this.) I refuse to use, (in fact I just cant even *force* myself to use), ugly software.

I know that every teenager since Adam probably has a skin that they have made for Firefox and I have tried to find some good ones, but none of the sites have any kind of indexing. So the question is...

Can someone point me to the skins or other resources that will change this ugly duckling into something that looks like it belongs on Mac OS-X? Not necessarily a Safari clone, just something that's actually attractive and has some style?

It would help if there was something that also replaced the ugly icon, and changed the name of the browser to something that *doesn't* bring a crappy old Clint Eastwood movie to mind but that's probably too much to ask. :)

if you find the simple clean interface ugly, you might want to explore the Themes menu option under Tools menu.
My own favorite is Pimpzilla theme, but I'm tacky that way.

I've just recently switched from Firefox to Opera (2nd time I've tried it).

Pretty good impressions so far. And it looks good.

Only the Microsoft update site has 'rejected it' so far :D

Hmmm...

Well I guess I used the wrong language since I got five answers in a flash but your all assuming this is flame-bait? Apolgies for making negative remarks about the Holy Sanctum of Mozilla. :D

But I was serious, this ting is Uuuuugly! (really)

You don't think so?

Well I like simple and clean, I would just add "attractive" to the end of it as well. But thanks for the tip, perhaps I haven't delved deep enough.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, :D :D

The page is still loading, but it looks pretty good to me. You saved my day since I have to use Firefox later.

That's funny cos I installed the Iridium theme on my powerbook earlier, Safari looks just like that Grapple theme now, in fact the whole OS does, combined with Minium icons ;)

I tried firefox for a while and I've still got it installed, but I so rarely come across a site Safari can't handle I've gone back to Safari because it's so much sleeker.

I'm using Firefox right now, and I happen to think that it actually looks quite good on OS X. It's not perfectly UI-guidelines-obedient, but then, hell, neither is iTunes, or, for that matter, loads of the iLife apps.

Camino is what you want if you want proper OS integration. Unfortunately I like to sync my bookmarks with Windows Firefox at work, and that extension's not available for Camino.

Well of course it would look good..

To a Traitorous Communist! :)

...but seriously, weren't those toolbar icons created in CorelDraw sometime in the 80's? :D

And how does bright cherry red, taupe, brown, and avacado green go with an OS that' predominantly pale blue, white and silver? (or go with each other for that matter :p)

I *do* like the fact that you aren't forced to have the google window in the toolbar like Safari does now though and it is clean and simple at least.

Use Safari with Saft and SafariStand. Keep FireFox at hand for the 1% of sites that won't work with it. The only ones I have a problem with are www.writely.com and my bank. :)
