I downloaded the demo of the game of the movie of Peter Jackson's King Kong yesterday.

If you have a decent pc and graphics card, I highly recommend this as a truly epic movie-like way to make your friends jaws drop to the floor. It's as good as any dedicated graphics card demo, except you can play it :)

It's short - two scenes from the game. But they're both packed with atmosphere. The first, you play a part of the film crew, armed with a not-very-effective weapon and two magazines. And you're trapped in a ruin with... a T-Rex. That seems intent on snacking on you and your pals.

In the second, you play Kong himself, and you have a truly, unbelievably epic battle with a T-Rex, then a bunch of raptors, then a pair of 'boss' T-Rex's.

Sure, the game is a little scripted in places, but it's incredibly impressive. It is the first truly cinema-movie-epic-sized game I've seen, where the game actually matches the true scale of the movie, as opposed to being the usual damp-squib-flailing-around-in-the-mud that most game/movie licenses are.

You can see a trailer of the game here, but frankly it doesn't do it justice! The game looks SO much better than this.

You can download the demo itself from any of the sites listed here

Wow that was a lot of fun. When I got to the Kong part at first I thought it was a cutscene... I was wondering why he was getting beaten on for a few seconds :D

I wish there was a bit more as Jack in the demo though...

I think i'm gunna pick this badboy up for rent (not becuase it's bad, but becuase I'm cheap, in fact, too cheap to drop 55$ on a game i will beat in 1-3 days)And also, i will do it on Xbox 360, mainly, becuase I prefer a TV and a control pad for games like this, the action bits anyhow.

Hail the Jackson!

In related news.... He's producing the Halo movie :D

I'm just wondering why there's a T-Rex in the movie. Is this some kinda Jurassic Park tie-in?

Because there was one in the original movie. And if you haven't seen the origina I would eventually, it is still a classic film, very well shot.

Since I am a filmmaker I may be slightly biased, and a lot of people can't stomach B&W but YMMV.

WOW!!! I didn't know that! I've never seen the original. See, along the years, people kept telling me that this was an urban legend... I'm glad you finally told me! :)

Kong's from some kinda "lost world" island, same as in the original IIRC.

Hail the Ansel! (If you haven't played it try Beyond Good and Evil - excellent Zelda type game from the same guy.)

Didn't try it until the N64 version but it was good fun! Could do with a 3D update, closest I've seen is Gozilla: Destroy All Monsters.

Yeah, it was marketed really badly so nobody carries it. On the plus side, if you do find it it's usually well cheap. I'd really recommend picking it up online if nowhere else - it really is awesome.

Never really got into Mech games to be honest, always found them either too slow or to clunky (yes, even Heavy Gear) - prefer games where it's fun to move about (like the latest 2 Spideman games, swinging about is sooo fun in them).

On another note, you reckon SL could support destructable buildings without lagging too badly? :)

<snark>Yep, it's kinda like a JP tie-in. In the same ways that Dungeons & Dragons is sorta like Chutes & Ladders, if that helps.</snark>

I just read that the new King Kong movie will be 3 hours long and it won't be cut when its released. Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the LotR movies, will do the movements of computer generated Kong.
