Ok, so I'm going to pittsburgh in June, and I have *no* idea what to see there. I found this webpage (http://tinyurl.com/s94er). But nothing there peaks my interest. I was wondering what anyone else knows what to do in Pittsburgh?

There's the Andy Warhol museum, the Carnegie Science Museum, Carnegie Natural Museum (altho actually in Oakland), The Mattress Factory (installation art), The South Side (the 'artsy' side of Pittsburgh).... countless bars & nightclubs too!! The only nightclub I've been to that I liked was Club Laga's Ceremony (goth/industrial) on Saturday nights. The rest just weren't my style.
Downtown is nice- not for the "big name" stores, but the old fashioned stores from days gone by. Achitecture is something to check out too! Some of the best things in Pittsburgh can be seen by looking UP. And I hope to god yer not driving!! Pittsburgh streets suck ass- directionally, traffic-wise and pot-holey. Also, if you've watched any of the George Romero movies- Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, then you'll see some of the places in the movies. Except for "Night" which was filmed in Butler county, and "Dawn' was filmed in Monroeville Mall. "Day" was filmed in an underground storage facility, and "Land' was filmed in Canada (go figure!). Ooo! There's The Point! A large fountain marking where the 3 rivers meet, and where George Washington got his ass handed to him by the French. There's also Kennywood Park- oldest amusement park with some the #1 rated coasters & Dark Rides. Thats all I can think of at the moment. ![]() |

Mostly what I found online were museums and bowling alleys, except for the incline. We can't do the clubs because we're both under 21, but maybe they have 18+ nights? |

AH! Heh, yea, it's tough in 'Da Burgh' if yer under 21. But if you're into the whole Goth/Industrial scene, Ceremony is All Ages. Not sure what the other nights are- one's "hip-hop" night (a.k.a.- Get shot outside night), and another night is their 80's night. Dont know if those are all-ages tho. A few nightclubs have the All-Ages nights.
Being under 21 you wont have to deal with Pennsylvania's archaic alcohol laws- Beer sold at "Beer Distributers" and hard liquor at "State Stores". I'm still envious of states where you can buy alcohol in 7-11s. Oh! There's also the Beehive, the Pittsburgh version of Star Bucks (not as corporate tho). And The Strip District, Ide's (comic book/CD's/DVDs). Best thing about Pittsburgh, though- FOOD!!! Bring yer Appetite!! OMG! The food!! BTW- Ducky Tours is neat. It's a tour of the city on one of those old WWII Amphibious Vehicles. Besides touring the city from the streets they take it around the river too. Kinda fun to watch. And speaking of the rivers, if you do any fishing we're good for that too! |

Ok, just found out from the fiance & some friends that Ceremony (pittsburgh's only goth/industrial club) is now 21+ only. That would explain why it seemed so under populated 2 weeks ago.
Heh, now I have NO idea what's there for the Under 21 Crowd. Hmmmm, I wonder why Pittsburgh keeps whining about "losing it's young people"?? OH! Just had to add this!!! In June, there's a Nine Inch Nails concert with 'special guest' Bauhaus!! I'm only going (if I can) to see Bauhaus!! ![]() |

Pittsburgh is fantastic depending on what you like to do. As was already stated, the museums are amazing. The arboretum is gorgeous as well, Kennywood Park of course. The incline is fun to check out as are the river boats. There's also all the other more historical spots to visit. Walking around downtown around the PPG building is great too. I haven't been able to get back there in ages though and the last time I was there, I was 18. There are great parks there as well.
I'd suggest dinner on one of the riverboats too if you get the chance. In general, if you like the more historical or cultural spots or are more outdoorsey there is a ton to do. As a little girl, I always loved Heinz Hall and the Natural Science Museum. I loved going to the Arboretum for class fieldtrips too and there's always the zoo. Also as Tod said, the architecture is beautiful and worth taking in. If you can check out Pitt University and the Cathedral of Knowledge, do. Great gothic architecture. If all else and you want more exciting, I'd say take the extra time to head over to Cedar Point in Eerie. It's not that far away and is a total blast. If you tell people you're from out of town they will treat you very very well. It has to be one of the friendliest cities you can go to. Just don't bash any of the teams. If there is bashing to be done let THEM do it. You as an outsider have no right. It's sort of a clannish city. If you're born and raised there you are 'in'. If you relocate there you can eventually get 'in' but it takes time. If you are visiting, you will get the royal treatment just as long as you remember you're a guest. ![]() Pittsburgh believe it or not is a top spot for films. I don't know how many times I've watched a movie, pointed to it and told my husband "Look! It's Pittsburgh! Great grandma's house was right over that hill there." |
