I have been a avid subscriber to Napster for a long time now, but I just noticed a new feature they added to their site that I think is a pretty big step forward from the 30 second clips of songs you get to hear if you don't subscribe or buy a song from a music site. Napster has made their entire catalog of over 2 million tracks available to listen to for free - you can listen to any individual song up to 5 times through the site.
You have to register with the site, but that's it - the song pops up in a web based player on the site. Having access to that much music on a whim is a pretty impressive thing. I already enjoy the benefits of that as a subscriber (along with being able to take any of those 2 million songs with me), but to be able to listen to them for free in their entirety is pretty amazing. Hopefully this will put pressure on other sites to end the era of the 30 second clip.
The site has a section that automatically generates the links to put into web pages and blogs. Hopefully this will catch on and people will begin to share music with each other more easily (and legally). A lot of times I find a song and would love to be able to just IM someone and say "here, listen to this" - now I can do that, which is pretty cool.
Example (for some reason, this song was stuck in my head)
Listen to Purple Rain (LP Version) by Prince : http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/12044829

It's Official!
It works like a charm.
