Pro Choice Rally in SL

Although I'm 100% with you in sentiment on this, I can't help feeling it would be so much better if it was happening in RL.

What could we hope to achieve in SL, have you got the press/media coming ?

It's right for sisters to stand up and be counted, but I'd like to think we were being heard for real on this particular issue.

Sorry if this sounds like a downer, it's not really, I'm intrigued to know.

Not to my knowledge, but there are a few "adoption" agencies.

Also,

I just came from the Pro-Choice event...

I'm sure you will hear from many people (on both sides of the issue) about the event.

Frankly, I'm just dissapointed as all heck that I was frozen by a Linden at one of the protest stops.

Nothing like negating my ability to peacefully gather, and share my opinion in a non-violent way.

I wasn't there, but I had to clean up some "SMASH COMMUNISM" and a physical torus bombing attempt in Neualtenburg as part of the aftermath. I'm assuming some kind of counter-protest but in either case... at least 1/5th of the Repesentative Assembly (i.e., me) ain't real happy about it.

I was there, and I was frozen by a Linden as well, despite the fact that we had permission. (However, I must admit that just after that point, I lost net access anyway, and everything was over by the time I got back on.)

None from Democracy Island, but if anyone has some, I would appreciate it. I was crashing non-stop at that point and had to reboot.

The greatest amount of protest was at the Welcome Area, where people seemed annoyed at having their important debates on science, literature and ethics disrupted by our squalid shouting and sign-waving. We got bombed by teddy bears at at least one point.

Aliasi, I do apologise for any inconvenience caused. We have a regular group of griefers who like to vandalise our area and neighbouring areas, some of whom were at the march trying to disrupt it (our security personnel and the mute button taking care of this fairly effectively). I wouldn't put it past them to be childish enough to leave such items in Neualtenberg. I'm afraid that nothing ever seems to get done to them by the Lindens.

No-one actually answered the question ... what could you possibly hope to achieve by protesting in SL ? To me it seemed inappropriate to march for abortion rights in a virtual reality with an audience of what ? 20 people at most ?

There's a time and a place for everything. RL is the place for this.

This isn't an issue to play games with, convince me otherwise...

Well, in that case, why talk about it to friends, or post about it on forums or blogs? It all builds up; every rally or march or argument has a cumulative effect. One can't expect one event to change the world.

No I totally agree, but for me this was something that I could participate in. I have a kid so going to a RL protest is a bit tough. We had a good turn out which means that if we do another one, we may get better and better press coverage :D We gotta be heard even if it is in this context...
