Right now as I type this the "big storm" is just arriving and I find myself dreaming of warmer places.

Then I think about my family members who are about to leave for vacation and knowing they'll be held up for awhile at the airport makes me cackle with glee.

;)

We hit ten below zero the other morning. Oh - great - and its snowing again.

Billy, I'll trade you a house in upstate NY with a woodstove for anyplace that averages 75 degrees year-round and a broadband connection.

San Diego temperatures range from 76 to 66, summer to winter. And no hurricanes! :D

It's gorgeous here in San Francisco. We're at a very comfortable 15 °C with lots of sun. :)

15 °C

Is that warm or cold?

You are the only person in the US I know that uses Celsius.

It's fun and easy! Let me teach you a trick.

To go from °C to °F, just double the number and add thirty (*2 +30).

To go from °F to °C, just subtract thirty and divide by two (-30 /2).

It's easy to remember because the multiplication and addition go together, while the subtraction and division go together. When you're in °F you can remember to subtract before you divide if you remember you're removing the 32 °F bias (32 °F = 0 °C). When going from °C to °F, it's the opposite where you finish by adding on the bias.

Note that this is approximate but it is always good enough for weather-related temperatures.

Finally, for advanced users who get good at converting quickly, you'll soon realize that humans feel the change in temperature in approximately 5 °C increments. One can even generalize appropriate attire by 10 °C increments like so:
  1. 0 °C - Freezing. Wear a full winter jacket.
  2. 10 °C - Brisk. Wear a thin jacket or sweater.
  3. 20 °C - Room temperature.
  4. 30 °C - Hot. Wear a t-shirt.
  5. 40 °C - Phoenix. Seek air conditioning.
