While I've seen other threads talking about "competition" or "similar products" I would have a great interest in making a comprensive list of programs that....
1. Are enough like SL to merit talking about here on the SL forum
2. Are enough of an ATTEMPT to be SL to giggle about here in the SL forum
3. They have cool enough features to use as a cool idea for new SL features
4. Have an aspect of "customization" or "openness" and are player driven.
We've seen lots of 3D worlds appear for game, business, and misc purposes, it seems as this becomes more and more of genre that extends and goes past a simple MMOG. I'd like to take a closer look at the direction(s) things are going.
SL has split as far as age group, would it need to split again for "business purposes" or if I run out of "quote marks". *rests fingers from quoting gesture.
Is Stagecoach and Teen Grid already an example of different girds for different purposes, or is it an example of how one application will cover many purposes?
Also, as I gather this list, it's hard to know if I should look at actual "worlds" or companies driving them. Thus should it be "Second Life" or "Linden Labs" we look at or both?
So lets take a look at what's out there. Please let me know how well you think they fit the criteria I've listed.
