wireless/WiFi question

Hi, I'm hoping for some help from some of the more hardware-savvy out there. I want to connect my computer to a video projector in another room, and ideally have video both there and on my monitor. I'm doing my own research, but I'm starting from zero knowledge of wireless tech and was wondering if anyone has some tips on hardware/software to seek or avoid.

*Edit: My research is suggesting that wireless motion video isn't possible at this time. Would I be able to connect a video projector to my cable internet and transmit video from computer, or would I need a server for that?

For video, I imagine you'd want maximum wireless bandwidth. The fastest wireless standard (that I know of) so far is 802.11n at 108 Mb. The only WAP (wireless access point) I know of that supports the standard so far is from Belkin:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=184316

I use this WAP and I can confirm that it connects at 108Mb. Beware: the firmware sucks. The WAP crashed frequently until I flashed it with Linksys firmware. After that, I've had no trouble with it.

I don't have any expertise on networked video projectors. That sounds like a cool project.

Yea WiFi isnt that fast, not fast enough to carry a unencoded video signal, however with a light encodeing it can do it, if you where to use a mpeg4 encodeing - you could hit maybe 10 streams of video over a wireless connection.

Last time a checked thay did have a box to do it (and it did say it worked with wifi on the box) at best buy.

Three methods I can think of:
Using the VideoLan software or something equivelent to broadcast encoded video over the wireless network, with another computer hooked up to the projector to recieve the streaming video and decode it for the projector. Wireless-B isn't that horrible, and can handle encoded video well enough with its bandwidth.

There are also serveral projectors made with wifi in mind, like: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,118433,00.asp . They aren't exactly cheap tho, and this one requires a wifi access point, too.

Theres also a neat wifi adapter that can be plugged into any vga or DVI port on any device. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1952917

None of this is going to have enough bandwidth for full screen motion video.

You're best off getting a second computer for the room with the projector. Couple it with the Diamond Extreme PVR (includes a wireless remote) and you've basically got TiVo in a PC.

It's what I do to watch AVI and MPEG movies in the living room. It's wonderful!
