"We're bridging the gap between virtual reality and reality right now," said Jan Welter, founder of Project Entropia.

How profound.

Just keep in mind that whenever you hear news about entropia, the whole "$100,000 space station" thing was bought by a man named Jon Jacobs.

Let's google him, eh?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Jon+Jacobs+entropia&btnG=Google+Search

Jon Jacobs, U.S. Spokesperson, Project Entropia: Jon Jacobs is the writer and producer of the hit song played in the Project Entropia Universe. It hit #3 on the Video Game Charts on www.ifilm.com beating out Blood Rayne 2 and even Spiderman 2 for a day. Jon’s main title within the company is US Spokesperson. His functions include US strategic relations as well as, business development, marketing and content acquisition. Jon Jacobs has written and Directed Five feature films including the Fantasy cult hit "Lucinda’s Spell" a story about the modern day descendent of Merlin. He has just finished directing and starring in HEY DJ!; a music driven film that features the biggest line up of the world’s Famous DJ’s ever to appear in a movie. He also co-stars in the soon to be released MAN of the YEAR, one of the last movies to star the late John Ritter.

Oops! Can we say, "incestual hype"?

This would be like if Cory Linden bought a whole bunch of islands in SL, and Linden Lab touted as proof that SL was successful.

I dont think you can "build" anything in it. AFAIK, it's your standard MMO, the only difference is that they are encouraging people to trade in-game currency for cash instead of out-lawing it. You make money through crafting (very different from building in SL) and selling items.

Interesting revenue model though, PE. I can see a lot of future MMOGs doing something similar.

You can craft armor, tools, weapons, clothes etc, hunt animals, kill people, mine for resources or trade. Pretty standard MMO stuff. One interesting feature is that you can team up while hunting. That way you can hunt bigger animals than you can on your own.

You can also own land and charge taxes on hunting and mining on your land. But you can not build anything from your imagination, like in SL. There is a blueprint for everything that can be crafted. You only need to get hold of it, and have the skills to use it efficently (without losing money).

Over time, you build up skills that let you do all this stuff more efficiently. Also, there is a loot pool when you do this, kinda like SL's money balls, that goes off every few minutes. Kill an animal, loot it, and you may win some cash. The same goes for all other 'occupations'. For instance, yesterday, I found a resource worth 140 PEDs while out mining. Last week, I was crafting some mining tools, and won 450 PEDs on top of what I made selling the item I crafted.

All significant winnings are announced in global chat, so-called 'globals'. If I remember correctly, the biggest win ever was around 90,000 PEDs (9,000 US$). There is a daily Hall of Fame list with the 25 biggest winners in each 'occupation', and a All Time High list to tempt you to spend more in order to have a chance at winning the big ones.

The most skilled players usually have a bigger chance of winning the big ones, but occationally a newb gets a fat prize.

Basicly it is a MMO casino. And like in all casinos: You mostly loose :)

I hunt enuf in rl...(in malls) and pay enuf taxes already (in malls) But since I downloaded the thing, I'm gonna try it! Going to buy me a space sta. first thing NOT. Love the registering part though. They won't let you go to the succeeding screens if you take too few seconds reading their 'tos'. BUT waiting a few extra seconds PRETENDING you're actually reading it lets you right through. Hope it's representative of the major thought processes behind the 'game'. I'll be able to 'win' pretty easily:)

Yeah, my friend and I played SL for a few months, then we tried PE. It sucks compared to SL. Trust me, you do NOT want to play PE. Here are some good reasons why:

1.) The controls are way to hard to master.

2.) You can barely do anything when you start out. When I started playing, all I saw was an Info booth that refused to work (guess the operator was AFK).

3.) It's almost exactly like Runescape or Maplestory or any other stupid MMORPG but with a 3D engine. Nice.

4.) You can't build or script. This is a big one here, because in SL you can just rez your house and you're done. In PE though, you have to go through a huge process. In PE you can't even rez a cube

5.) And, unlike SL, you can't build small platforms in the air.

6.) Last time I checked, you can't even fly.

7.) The account creation part is BS. I skipped the Readme or whatever and it asked me if I was sure I read it. So I had to go back, wait 2 minutes, and continue. Once I got the account info in, I submitted it to find that you have to wait an hour or so to get it validated. So, I waited (and downloaded the client while I was at it.) The email never came. So I created another account, which eventually went though, and once I started the client it wouldn't work!!!! So, I got it fixed and, 2.5 hours after I started to create the account, I finally got on. But instead of a game, I faced a 5 minute movie! Then you have to go through a bogus storyline! THEN you have to edit every single part of your avatar! THEN YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH MORE STORYLINES!!! Once I finally got in, I was lagged to death! Its bullshit I tell you, complete and total bullshit!
