All banana plants in the world are clones, and cannot produce seeds (a banana with seeds is inedible, being full of seeds). If a disease were to hit the banana population it would be wiped out, as they all have the same genetic stock and hence the same weaknesses.

I bought some red bananas a while back and they were really good, but I haven't seen them in the store since then. I hate the fact that most bananas in the store are so huge. I like bananas, but I don't want that much at one time. I always pick through and find the smallest ones.

This isn't quite true.
There are hundreds of different types of bananas in the world (if you include plantain). They are a major food crop in Africa, being eaten at almost every meal in some places. Millions of people around the world depend on them for survival. They rank up there with rice and wheat in terms of importance.
While there is a risk of some kind of disease wiping out entire crops, there are several "genetic banks" around the world set up for just that sort of emergency. It would be bad, but bananas would not be lost completly as the banks would still be able to preserve them until the problem could be solved.
Quite a few labs around the world are also working on creating improved strains, including making them disease resistant.
