I downloaded the game and a free trial subscription this weekend and I was wondering how many others here are playing it?

My impressions so far:
It has a lot of the same qualities as City of Heros: fast paced and very fun combat, archtype classes with personalized skill selections and... a lack of social gameplay.

For the most part it seems to be: get a mission, drive to the waypoint, start shooting everything until you either die or complete your mission. If you die there's no penalty other than the (usually < 1 min) it takes to drive back.

I'm only lvl 10 so far, so I haven't had the need to group with other players yet, and I'm not sure when that will happen. I do worry that it will be tough to do anything other than a group zerg, since driving and working weapons at the same time means no chat during a fight... and fighting is pretty much constant.

I remember playing Car Wars on the table top when I was a happy little nerd in high school, so I've been waiting for a game like this. The combat is great, but I fear that it will mostly just be a solo play game and I'm not sure I can justify a subsciption fee for that.

Anyone else have thoughts or suggestions about the game?

I hated CoH. It was fun in the beta, but a month or two after the release it just got too repeitive and drone to play anymore. I think I went to Planetside from there, then to WoW, which I still play both. :p

I was in the euro beta of AA and have been playing the last month too. The game is fun if you just pop in for an hour or so when you feel like blowing everything up and causing carnage. It has the depth of a puddle though and definately isn't finished. The population level is so low on the English language euro server that you would find it hard to group even if you wanted to.

The crafting is fun, but what is the point if there is no market system and no one to buy your goods? Hopefully things will pick up over the next few months as they add stuff that should have been there at release, though if they take much longer to do it I doubt the game will last very long.

I've been in AA for about 2 weeks now. my main so far is L39.

My observations is that it is a great game... which needs a lot of polishing.

The Good:
- The theme is new. It's all action based. No more click something and hit attack. You have to maneuver to get good angles. You chase things down. You lay mines as traps in advance, etc.
- Graphics are beautiful. GLOWEY AND SHINY!
- Maps are big and well laid out... and there's just so much to blow up. ^^
- Drops from mobs are often actually upgrades or things you need to wait a bit to use. I hated WoW's policy of having mobs drop things 8+ levels lower than you so most of the stuff that dropped was useless to the player by the time they could kill said mob.
- Almost anything you get in the game can be 'reverse engineered' and tinkered with to make new items. And there's near-infinate combinations of things to get out there.
- In most cases, there's no set loot. Which means no camping some rare spawn for 4 hours a day. Epic loot just may drop off of anything!
- STUNTS!

The Bad:
- Crafting system has some bad holes. Look on the official board for 'grease'... one of the big topics all crafters complain about... having to farm grease.
- Classes are imbalanced. The Human Engineer is the Godmode of AA. Where the other classes struggle, the Engineer can EZMode.
- Game may seem repetitive to those used to lots of exploring. Areas sometimes seem too alike. Quests often have you driving back and forth into the same areas over and over.
- Loot generation are botched. If you start a profession after L20, you're in deep trouble since "grey enemies" (things too low in level for you to get any challenge from) that drop the commodities needed to craft low level items very rarely drop anyone for players too high level. (see the 'grease' comment above)

The Ugly:
- Avatars have no emotes, no gestures. The only anims there are is 'stand there idle' and 'run'.
- Mission structure vs. Travel Time can be irritating. Especially when you drove 5 miles to somewhere to kill something for someone, and upon turning in the quest, he sends you right back out there again to the same spot. RAAAAAGH. Why couldn't you have asked me for those alligrake skins THEN? :D

That brings up another issue I've found, which is everyone seems to be playing humans, which in a game where there are 3 sides taking part in PvP combat is a little unbalanced. The human vehicle designs are nice though, all shiny with lots of neon. I prefer the biomech look myself though, more utilitarian and brutish. Oh and you can't beat a bit of borg: resistance is futile and all that.

I tried it for a few hours. Hated it. There isn't any real structure, hardly any story. And worse: No.. PEOPLE! Well hardly anyway.

I got in on the 7th wave of beta last summer. I've been a Human, Biomek and Mutant. I like the mutants the least. I don't spend as much time there as I do in SL. I guess its because I find myself playing during the usual beta "open" hours on Wednesdays and weekends. Old habits are hard to break.

The main problem is that you can solo the game (all but some boss), from lvl 1 to lvl 80.
Group is a loss of time....

AA need a community... can't be done with a Massively Solo Online game...
