So yesterday MP's voted by a massive majority for a complete ban on smoking in all pubs, clubs, restaurants and workplaces in England from next Summer. The only exemption in the entire country? The bars serving MP's in the Palace of Westminster, because it's technically classed as a royal palace.

Ha! That sounds familiar. I live in Maryland in a suburb of Washington, DC. My county and all the ones that surround it have banned smoking in all restaurants and bars. If I want to be able to smoke in a restaurant or bar I have to drive into DC.

... and the day before they pretty much voted in ID cards and today they're voting on the "Glorification of Terrorism" Bill ... I'm kinda of expecting Blair to end his term with Martial Law and Curfews.

they did this, hmm, about 6 years ago in California. One actually does get used to it, to the point that when I take a trip to somplace that allows smoking inside, it seems weird.

Yup. The few airports I go to that still have the glass cage full of smokers is like being in a time warp.

From: Laukosargas Svarog today they're voting on the "Glorification of Terrorism" Bill Which apparently has just passed with 37 votes, but the Lords hate it so it may go back again. From: Laukosargas Svarog ... I'm kinda of expecting Blair to end his term with Martial Law and Curfews. Well, we already have ASBOs, which despite their Mail-friendly image actually allow one to be locked up for something which isn't a crime. You can use those for curfews.

We live on airstrip one folks. Big brother is a fusion of Bush and Blair. Goldstein is Bin Ladin.
Imagine a face stomping on a human face forever... that is the future. Ok its paraphrased, not quoted, but were rapidly approaching it.

"all pubs, clubs, restaurants and workplaces"?!?!
Okay, workplaces I'm fine with - most are anyway and being able to take a break to have a fag rules.
Pubs I guess I could put up with, but it'll be annoying and pretty hard.
Restaurants I totally agree with.
But clubs?? WTF? I can just imagine everyone gnawing at the walls because they can't smoke when they're high. This pisses me off immensly.
