As we ponder about what the hell they might be thinking.. I've been coming to some conclusions myself. But after being an avid studier of the Cuban Missile Crisis, this seems similar in terms of the situation.
So whats your thoughts on this? Is there really no solution to this?

They have missles and we have missles but ours are bigger than theirs.

Meh, the whole missiles in Korea thing is just a ploy to get what they want. Sort of like a spoiled child holding it's breath or throwing a tantrum. He doesn't want a war, he just wants to be a spoiled brat that gets what he wants.
That's why Bush is talking about diplomacy instead of nuking them.
Frankly I can't see why the people of North Korea put up with the idiot. If they just got rid of him all their lives would be better.

I don't really see how this is like the cuban missle crisis. Other than missles it's a very different set of cirumstances.
I think the North Koreans feel they have a right to own those types of weapons.

In an iron-fisted dictatorship like NK, the govt has eyes and ears everywhere, the people aren't allowed to have weapons, and if you're caught plotting anything, you (and often your whole family) end up in one of their Hell-on-Earth Gulags, where you generally have a very unpleasant life before dying of exposure, disease, starvation, exhaustion, bullet, ect. The people are terrified over there, though it is possible that a small group of trusted military officials could do him in when he least expects it and take power. There can't be any sort of popular uprising, though.

From: Schwanson Schlegel Kim Jong-il is a fucking lunatic. The sooner he's dead the better. Sad thing, when he dies, someone else will take over the lunacy, hence, father/son kinship. While I agree that he's a direct threat to world security, I'm surprised that we hadn't taken a direct action as of yet. I guess with the backing of Russia+China, I doubt we'd really risk either of these actions. I was holding my breath to see how the world would react to the launching of missiles, even if they were test. Is the clock ticking?

There can't be any sort of popular uprising, though. The people in N Korea may be terrified, but they are probably more afraid of the US then they are of their own government. They are taught from birth that the US is evil, and wants to hurt them. As far back as the Vietnam War they have been taught to hate us. I remember seein photos of children as young as 4 or 5 being taught to bayonet dummies wearing american uniforms.

What foreign superpower is erecting missiles in North Korea? Who do we blockade? When's the last time that Kim, that veteran military/political officer of the Second World War, pulled off his shoe and pounded on a desk in the U.N? Is George W. erudite? Does he think for himself? Are the JCS advising him to stage a major bombing campaign in North Korea, followed by Marine landings - Curt LeMay flavor? Or are they telling him that the post Cold War American military is stretched a little thin... and maybe we'd better not.
Few similarities.
