Well, I spent my weekend playing Lionheads new 'The Movies'. Which is like The Sims in a Movie Studio, to simplifyy it a lot. Fortunately, it has a sandbox mode so you don't have to be doing with all the management stuff, so having dispensed with all that... I used it to make some movies today and yesterday. And since I wasted my weekend doing it, I figured I may as well show someone :)

Be kind. My first four ever attempts - the game has only been out since Friday ;)

(All in .WMV format. Sorry for those that can't!)

TombShine (2.9m)

Invaders From Zargnax 5 (5.2m)

Dogbrothers Part 1 (6.6m)

October Mourning (7.9m)

Good stuff, makes me want to buy that game.

Have you submitted them to the official site yet?

Not very long really. That's kinda the beauty of the thing; it's pretty powerful software for easily creating machinima wrapped in a game. Which means it costs game kinda prices and not professional 3d animation software kinda prices :)

The toughest bit for me was sticking with something. I had so many ideas, which would often change and morph the whole story as I shot other scenes and thought of new things that I prolly discarded twenty something original ideas to get these four :)

The short one, Tombshine... about an hour.

The longest one, October Mourning, probably about 4 hours. Lots of scene changes, characters etc. Prolly would have been a lot faster had I not been making it up as I go ;)

Fun stuff!

I went browsing the site for the game, and they have a bunch of movies people have made.

My favorite was Scholastic Films: Intelligent Design :D

Well, having got to grips with the process with those first shorts, I have decided to embark upon an original full(er) length action feature film.

I have only shot the first scene so far. See what you think :)

Cold as Winter - Scene 1 - (10mb, High Quality, 5m 20s)

So as to how long it takes... this is an evenings work. But lots of editing to cut scenes about it more interesting ways, and I shot way more footage than I really needed. But choice is good.

I'll shut up now.

This is the bit where we applaud, right? W00t! Well done!
It hits the shelves tomorrow or the day after in these parts. I think it will make a nice...umm...present for my partner. Yes. "Here, honey. ;) This is for you." <later> "Golly, you look tired. Maybe you should turn in early." :)

AHHHHHH stop showing off I just ordered it and it won't be here until Wednesday. I have been waiting for ages for the Movies to come out - I had no idea it had been release  Now I will never have time to finish up Laquita's Gold Digger music video. Great stuff, Kris.

DogBrothers - Volume 1 is now my first official release on The Movies community site.

This is actually a complete recast and reshoot from the one I linked above. Includes extra scenes and is completely re-edited. If you're a community member, gimme a review, will ya? :p

Well, since Kris has been inspiring us left and right, I went and made one as well.

A chance meeting between Psyra, Philip, and Jeska. with a stupid ending (but mostly because there'd been no real action throughout the whole thing.

It started serious, it ended... weird.
