so I was at the theatre buying tickets for V and we noticed that many of the movies out today (and for some time now) are remakes. I realized then that, with the exception of Psycho, no one had remade all those great Hitchcock classics: To Catch a Thief, Vertigo, Rear Window, North by Northwest... such wonderful movies and no one has remade them!

I thought that the time was right for "To Catch A Thief" to be remade. It could star Tom Cruise in the Cary Grant role (and Katy Holmes in the Grace Kelly role). Of course that horrified all of us.

This started us on a game of remakes of great movies. Take Casablanca. Couldn't you just see Billy Bob Thorton in the Bogart role? Or George Clooney in the Claude Raines role? Angelina Joile in the Bergman role. Ayeeeeeee!

You too, can play this game :)

Remaking television shows as movies is the wave of the present! On the heels of such stellar films as The Dukes of Hazzard and Starsky and Hutch, it's inevitable that we can expect Green Acres: The Movie, The Jeffersons Move On Up, The Facts of Life '06, and (if we're really lucky) Identical Cousins: Patty and Kathy Take Manhattan.

... or, if we're even luckier, Hollywood will be sucked into the third circle of Hell, taking the current crop of lame-ass, no-imagination, money-sucking sycophants and morons who 'entertain' us with it.

They are also remaking all the gore/splatter flicks of the 70s. Hills Have Eyes is coming. Texas Chainsaw just done recently, Evil Dead coming up, etc.

The BIRDS! I wanna see a remake of the birds. I love that movie, and in fact, I used to watch all of hitchcock's stuff on tv when I was a kid. Love that opening theme :)

Oooo! The Birds would be good!!!

Some of these remakes I just cant see spending the money to go to the theater for. BUT, the last good one I saw, even tho not a 'total' remake, was Dawn of the Dead. Still creeps me out!!! Slow, stumbling flesh-eating dead people I can deal with... just walk away. NOW they Run after you!!! And that lil' girl at the begining!!! Scared the crap outta me!! 'Course I expected the Zombie Baby. :( And the ending was not your typical hollywood They-Live-Happily-Ever-After Ending.

Man, I'm gonna watch it again!!! (got the DVD) :D

The latest 70s TV show to get the movie treatment is "Welcome Back, Kotter" starring Ice Cube as Mr. Kotter, this time the setting will probably be in South Central L.A. instead of Brooklyn.

You can read about it here.

There was also talk of Jim Carrey doing a movie for the "Six-million Dollar Man" TV series, but it has been stated by one of Carrey's people that he has never been attached to the movie.
