What do you do to entertain yourself at work? I try to break the rules on internet usage, break times and lunch times. I also entertain myself by sending emails to colleagues with extreamly rude jokes. And then there are the practicle Jokes. Im good for a laugh.

hehe
I am compiling a list of all the stupid statements I've gotten in research papers. For example "Archduke Franz Ferdidnand was killed in 1913 and is still dead" There is so many things wrong with that sentence that I can't stop laughing at it. |

Sometimes I'll play my PSP, watch a movie, log in to SL (which is useless with my Intel decidedly-unExtreme gfx card), read, surf the web, run around the office with arms stretched out pretending I am an airplane, eat pistachios, sing, etc. Most of these things I can also do *while* working - I am a good multi-tasker, and my employers give me freedom as long as I keep doing my job as well as I do.

Nursing was the wrong choice, apparently, for someone who wishes she could be bored at work!
![]() Although, actually, my old job was in a maternity ward that wasn't very busy, lots of downtime, so we'd bring laptops and log on via dialup. _____________________

I browse the forums when I'm not busy, and we don't even have any rules against it here.

The correct quote is "Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead" actually since I quoted one of my students paper's it was quoted right. You failed to catch; 1. it was mispelled 2. the year was wrong 3. "and still dead" WTF!!! |

I work 3rd shift for a newspaper company, I process ads, scan photos, tone photos, and paginate the classified ads. Since ads stop coming in around 8pm, unless I'm doing classifieds that night(we alternate), I only have to work on scans or toning color...which gives me time to read the forums or check my e-mail/search for new websites. During the winter/fall we are more busy and I'm not sure If I will have much time to browse the forums ect. but overall I like my job! I know how to do what I do pretty good and I get a descent paycheck, plus I don't have to deal with customers as i did in my two previous jobs(I'm only 20). Anyone else work 3rd shift?

Our company has a acceptable use policy but the company is very trusting (on purpose). With that being the case the only time I've ever heard of anyone having issues was when they were doing something very illegal (kiddie porn, etc.). Some of my friends work for companies where their managers receive reports of what sites the cruise and how long they spend online, as far as I know our company has the technology but chooses to keep a trust environment until necessary.
In my current job I don't have much time to surf around but in previous jobs I made the time to check all the geekly websites and generally do all my tech reading at the office. When I did have the time I ran an RSS news Aggregator on my desktop (before RSS I had quick links to all the sites I checked) and read general news sites, Slashdot, Gizmodo, Engadget and several blogs I could pretty much fill up any time that I wasn't busy... -Alan |

I am of the opinion that if I am going to be treated by a child by my employer I will behave like a child at work (and I do). I find it fun to break all the rules that my bosses spend so much time creating. If they were to treat me like an adult and start trusting me to divide my time sensibly they would find me a better employee lol. I have a stressful job, and I do it well, but when I am in the office I like to upset the whole building ROFL
