Do SL gamers represent themselves differently in the game then they would in RL?

As a college assignment, we are currently researching the question that is mentioned above. We are curious to learn of the experience of conversant players concerning this question.

Have you met players from Second life that represent themselves differently in real life then they would in second life? Could you explain why you think this might be the case?

If you could provide us with any information, don’t hesitate to respond.

*looks at how attractive everyone is*
*looks at giant robots stomping aorund town*
*looks at furries*
*looks at Gor, then runs away before she is captured*
*looks at number of "lesbians" and compares it to RL statistics*
*puts a photo of herself next to a scrrenshot of her avatar and looks closely*

Nope. Everything in SL is exactly the way it is in RL. No misrepresentation at all.

On the topic of research, Dennis, you will surely want to read the Research Ethics in Second Life reference page. :)

Surely the clue is in the name "Second Life"? Why the hell would you want a virtual simulation of your first one?

No, I really am Dr. Teeth from the muppets.

Well, everyone does call me a muppet, anyways.

Yes. Some people do and some people don't.

Show me someone who wants nothing and I'll show you despondency.

Also, Starax, I'm still going "Wow" over the magic wand. It is a portable SL version of Guggenheim Soho, practically. And I'm not sucking up! I want nothing!!! Nosssingk!

This is about personality rather than appearance, yes?

I am a hot blonde skank in SL, in RL I am a reddish head with a big ol' BELLY! At least my boobs are the same. I am 5'1 in RL and 7'1 in SL.
My personality is similar. My forums one, not so much. I am much ruder in forums than I am in-world or in RL. Although I will ALWAYS be a smartass that enjoys trying to derail the serious discussions. They give me eye twitches.
