Check this out.

Today, I got a phone call from someone claiming to be from Chase Bank offering Fraud Protection Services. The strange thing was that it was a computer voice. So I asked to speak to a supervisor. The first thing he did was ask me for my address.

I asked him why he needed it. He said to look up my account. I told him that I don't even HAVE an account with Chase Bank anymore. He told me during the converstation that they were calling fom India because I questioned why a LOCAL number had come up on my caller ID. India???? Huh???

I asked him for a phone number for Chase Bank that I could call. He then gave me 800-621-XXXX. I called it and the guy on the phone...first thing...asked me for my address. I asked him WHY! He told me very impatiently that he wanted to look up my account to see if I had fraud protection service on my account. I told him that I was calling about a strange call I just had. Before I could even get the paragraph out of my mouth, he said that they ARE working for Chase Bank. He was very impatient and REALLY wanted to get off the phone.

So although I do not hold any interest in Chase Bank, I thought I'd give them a call. I told someone in Fraud Prevention about the callsand they imeediatley transfered me up to Corporate (oooohhhh ahhhhhh!)

I told the "executive" what had happened and he got all the phone numbers (and mine) and put me on hold for a while. He kept coming back asking questions...so I figured we were on to something (Hellz Yea! I want my reward!)

But alas, he verified that the company that called initially was outsourced from Manilla. The second number was also a division of Chase Bank. So much for demanding any reward.:(

So why then... if Chase Bank is having so much trouble with hackers, then why are they having shifty sounding people calling from some other country using computer voices asking for peoples addresses with fake phone numbers?

Just doesn't make sense. Bad marketing if you ask me. They look bad enough with all those fake emails being sent out from hackers, now they are outsourcing their Fraud Department??? So you mean to tell me that someone in Manilla has MY frikking name and address, phone number AND account number OMG!!!

Completely unacceptable. I am calling Channel 9 News!

Apparently they didn't have your address.

Just for the record, what is that address again?

If someone calls you and asked for your address, you should get their address first.

It seems odd that they call you asking for information they should already have.
