I love MacOS and Apple hardware. It's luxurious. SL runs like a dream on a dual 2.3 GHz G5 with a 23" Cinema HD display.

hehe

The Apple Macinotosh was releaced in the mid-80's and marked as a competitor to the PC, which was primarily a geek and business machine.

Then Linux and Free BSD started becoming popular amoung the über geeks. Yes, Linux and Unix are the geekiest OS's ever made. You have to have been born with a keyboard in one hand and a floppy in the other to properly appreciate the nuances of the Unix operating system (and all it's clones and descendents).

Let's not forget that the big thing about the Macintosh was: There's no command line! It's easy to use! You never have to edit a .ini, .bat or .sys file to do everything you need to do in the Macintosh OS. To underscore their point, they build the crappiest keyboard known to mankind, just to make sure you don't actually type on the thing.

Suddenly, in a move inspired by the gods of chaos and confusion.... Apple picks UNIX as its new operating system! Yes, the ultimate non-g33k computer, the one that no self-respecting nerd would be caught in the same room with, now boasts a command line, text-based configuration files, and I'll bet there's even a copy of the most evil full-screen text editor ever invented in there somewhere: vi.

I'm trying to figure out what they're going to do next: replace the Happy Mac symbol with a little guy with glasses held together with tape and paperclips, or release the Apple Cell Phone.

Ahh, but at least it's no longer necessary to pretend you were "just walking through" the Mac section at the local computer store if someone you know happens to see you drooling over the latest Mac.

Actually, the Cinema Display LCD's are good stuff.... I want 3. :D

The Apple Macintosh actually preceded the PC. Here's the ad they took out when IBM entered the market. :)

The 1977 Apple ][ was the first highly successful mass-produced personal computer. It predated IBM's PC by four years. Because of its wide-spread popularity (it was ubiquitous in my junior-high school science classes), it is considered the "first" personal computer.

However, if you want to march all the way back to find the first true PC, follow this link: http://www.blinkenlights.com/pc.shtml

macs are great

unless you don't want to mortage your house to buy something that can run about 2% of the apps and progs out

I want to like mac

but if i want to do anything with a realistic price frame, mac isn't the way to go

when an old PC died, i bought a pc with no OS and tried Linux, but it still has a ways to go to be usable

alas, I have to pay microshit to do anything at a reasonable price

Macs using pentiums are an interesting development

I hope one day I can justify selling one of my kids for a mac, but until it can do anything besides video and graphics, microshit has my dollars

I wish i could get warez for windows, but microshit stopped that at park place

I will never own another apple. The machines may be great, but I don't trust the company. I used to own an Apple 2GS when they just dropped it. They didn't phase it out, or give owners any kind of break to switching to the Apple Mac. They just stopped. Nuff, said.

I love my Macs. I currently have an iMac G4 and two iBook G4s. I'm planning on getting a PowerBook (Intel) when it's available.

They're a bit more expensive than PCs, yes. But, honestly, it's worth it. Mine never freeze, never lock up, never crash. I don't get spyware and viruses. It's just so much easier to use than my PCs. Oh, and honestly, I haven't had all that much software that I couldn't use on here. Just about all Windows programs will run on Virtual PC for Mac.

And, besides, when the new Intel Macs come out, you'll be able to dualboot into Windows. :)

What, are we going back to before The Apple Macintosh?

My first computer was a Vic-20. I have played with lots of those old dino's (Vic-20, C-64, TRS-80, Adam, Amiga, Atari ST, Apple I & II, and even a Pet)... :)

I am not so sure about the Apple ][ being the first highly successful, did it pre-date the C-64?

I disagree. The best computer ever was the Hollerith machine produced by DE.Hollerith Machinen Geschellschaft, a subsidiary of IBM in the 1930's. No other machine has scheduled more executions, traced more bloodlines, planned more wars, run more countries, supplied more death camps, or given more power (both monetary and political) to a CEO of a single company in history. Super Spass for the whole family!

This by heartily will be the second time I disagree to agree that I ever agreed to disagree about agreeing and that to disagree would be totally and entirely agreeing with the current statement of disagreement to agree that I disagreed on the fact entirely,

So lets just all agree to disagree in the same exact function,

Well, it seems the Apple ][ (June 5, 1977) did come out before the C-64 (August 1982), by a couple of years.

Course, th C-64 sold from $600 to as low as $200...and it wasn't until the following year that Apple came out with the ][e (catching up in technology with the C-64) that cost $1,400... (just had to include that in there) :)
