A few minutes ago I was taking a smoke break from work. While standing outside I looked up and saw a light, greenish-white in color and about 1/10th the size of the moon. I'm not sure what it was exactly. But as I watched it, it got smaller and smaller then was gone. It didn't go in any direction. It was just wierd. I'm not claiming to have seen a UFO, because I don't look good with tin foil on my head. BTW... I haven't done acid since the 80's so it wasn't that. Has anyone else seen anything wierd in the sky?

The Iridium satelites used to give off huge flares. I dont' know if they're still around or not. But I swore to god I was seeing a UFO the first time I saw one.

There is currently a comet that is visible in the northern skies, but now I would think it had got too faint to see. If it *was* that, the disappearance could be explained by high-level wispy clouds.

From: Persephone Kirkorian The Iridium satelites used to give off huge flares. I dont' know if they're still around or not. [/IMG] I have seen dozens of "Iridium Flares" The Iridium satellite constellation is composed of 88 satellites, some of which are currently inoperable and tumbling. The flares are caused by the MMAs, or main mission antennaes. These are highly polished aluminum antennaes that can act as a mirror to reflect light from below the horizon back to Earth. The Iridium project failed miserably and the remaining operable sats were aquired by Motorola. Here is what they look like up close.

It's not that I don't believe in aliens... I'll fully accept there's probably life out there, somewhere.
It's that I don't believe the only aliens with technology advanced enough to come visit us are the intergalactic equivilant of drunken fratboys.

I've seen space junk returning to our atmosphere, that was pretty cool, and I've seen the northern lights, those are beautiful. I've never seen anything truly wierd in the sky though, I've only seen truly wierd in humans....

It's all fun and games, until someone pokes out an eye.

It was a signal from the mothership sending messages to certain prophets of economic doom that unless the stipends are stopped the world will end in days. DAYS! I TELL YOU!

Selador, you just have to head up to the north of Scotland. I lived in Aberdeen for a year, and saw them a few times, also in a week long holiday in Wester Ross, i saw them 2 nights in a row. Lunar eclipses, or "blood moons" are pretty cool to see too.

Lucifer,
On one occasion they were allegedly visible as far south as I am (Berkshire), but I certainly didn't see them. Probably the background glow didn't help.

It would happen Selador: http://www.firstscience.com/SITE/ARTICLES/magnet.aspFrom: someone They've also learned what happens during a magnetic flip. Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, and during that time - contrary to popular belief - the magnetic field does not vanish. "It just gets more complicated," says Glatzmaier. Magnetic lines of force near Earth's surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it's still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms.
And, as a bonus, Tahiti could be a great place to see the Northern Lights. In such a time, Larry Newitt's job would be different. Instead of shivering in Resolute Bay, he could enjoy the warm South Pacific, hopping from island to island, hunting for magnetic poles while auroras danced overhead. .
