Ok, I have a cell phone/mobile phone thats bluetooth enabled. I have a bluetooth USB dongle on my PC. Was just wondering if its at all possible to use my phone as a microphone? Mainly because I'm curious :p

My Bluetooth software offers a "voice gateway" but it seems to want to use the PC microphone as oppsed to the other way round.

What happens when I connect it is.. My phone tells me to say a name or voice command after the tone (like when I use voice commands to call), it doesn't give me a tone and then says "no matches".

I think I want some kind of "headset" option, but its not there on the software, not sure if thats a limitation of my mobile or the USB adapter. So, is it just that my phone/bluetooth adapter doesn't support it, or is there something that can be done? Just curious :)

Windows XP
Belkin 10M USB Dongle
Sony Ericsson T610
Nvidia nforce Audio

Idunno. I wouldn't mind using a Bluetooth headset with my PC, tho.
Mostly because I go through corded headsets pretty fast.

Bluetooth Headset for PC

Ok, two options:

OPTION 1 - Buy a complete kit.

http://www.skypemart.com/direct/skypeusa/itemdetl.jsp?prod=2855

OPTION 2 - Try fixing what you already bought.

In order to use the headset you already own, you will need to fix the drivers for Bluetooth.

Windows XP's built in Bluetooth drivers do not support headsets. Chances are, your existing Bluetooth drivers are messed up and you don't know it.

First, download the latest driver for your Bluetooth dongle. Reboot if it asks.

Go Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and click Bluetooth devices. Disable the Microsoft Bluetooth driver but don't delete it.

Now select the other bluetooth driver. Select the Update Driver option, select the driver for your dongle (probably a btwusb.inf or btusb.inf file in the folder you got from the manufacturers website).

If you see a white "B" with a blue background icon in your system tray, you should be setup. Click it and add Headset device, etc., etc.

Can you get this far in the setup? Maybe you just have a soundcard conflict.

Heres a step by step guide (all windows snaps shots so nice n easy) to get the stacks (drivers) working correctly in XP, as mentioned above, you also need to make sure your headset supports handsfree profiles ect, as long as you have ur dongle disk which should have the widcomme stack on it pretty quick to change over I had it working through teamspeak and ventrilo plus yahoo voice ect but the sound quality is very poor people always commented that it sounds as if your mouth is very far away from the microphone and the batt life on headsets is not great, plus there are issues with directx, when used with certain voice software such as ventrilo. As the stack aint signed ect everytime I wanted to use it I had to switch audio in/out profiles as they always defaulted to the onboard sound, which is a real pain lol

As for using your phone, I never got any further than creating a BT local network. Its nice to beable to walk round the house with it but for the problems it creates its not worth it, although I read there will be purpose made pc BT headsets but wont be cheap

(be aware m8 that if u change the stack, it will stop u using ur dongle for up/downloading phone to pc and vice versa) unless u change em back n forth!

I've never heard of handsets being able to do that, it's probably not a default function but there might be some software (for the phone) that'll let you do it. Of course that's likely gonna be very hard to find software and probably made by a random hacker.

You'll want to check what Bluetooth layers your dongle does too.
