I'm just curious as to why it offends people to have their thread moved to "Off-Topic". I know there's a difference in the posting rules but at the same time, people reading the General threads are also reading the Off-Topic threads so it still seems to get the same amount of viewing. Is it the principle of the whole thing? Just wondering is all :D

I don't know. I've always found the off-topic threads more entertaining than the General thread.

I think it's good that threads get moved to the most appropriate section of the forums. Grouping threads like this reduces clutter and makes it easier for residents to find what they are looking for.

Problems arise when threads are mis-filed. If a thread largely deals with Linden Policy but is haunted by occasional humorous asides, it will likely end up in "Off-Topic" even if the asides are not not related to "ideas and observations about the real world" which is what Off-Topic is supposed to be about! It's essentially like putting the cookbook I was looking for in the Physics section of the book store. I'm not likely to ever find it!

When thread mis-filing occurs randomly it's just annoying. But when there is heightened enforcmenet of "off-topic" rules regarding a particular topic, such as criticism of the ResMod program, then it creates the appearence that the threads are being placed in the wrong section intentionally to ensure users looking for these kinds of threads on the subject won't find them as easily.
