For surprisingly good bang for the buck, I strongly recommend eMachines (which was on at least tigerdirect.ca). As CNET noted in one of their more recent reviews "If you formed your opinion of eMachines 5 years ago, forget your old opinion". I didn't believe this until I put a box in service for my kid, flawless out of the box for about a year. I recently added a second to my "too many 'puters" room.
For CDN$1000 you will not get an "elite" machine. But you'll run SL just fine (and pshop, etc.)
Good luck.
Added: Like all stock PCs pre-built and in a shipping crate they have too little RAM; expect to add that to your purchase. 512MB is just too small but the recent 6528 I got has room for 4GB.

You would be really hard pressed to build a new computer for under CA$1000 that would be better for Second Life than what you already have. About the only weak point in your system is the ATI X850, which is a bit off the state of the art. If you're really feeling the compulsion to spend money, you could probably gain a bit by replacing that with an NVidia 7800GS, which is the fastest available AGP graphics card, but I wouldn't expect a big enough improvement to justify spending CA$400, which is about what I think one of those sells for right now.
Or if you're feeling even more ambitious, you could rebuild your system using most of your existing parts (CPU, RAM, and other stuff), but replacing the motherboard so you could install a PCI Express video card. A new motherboard plus an NVidia 7950GX2 video card would probably just about blow your CA$1000 budget. But even that wouldn't be all that much faster than what you've got.

From the husband:
Dual 1 gigabyte ram sticks, OCZ platinum EL edition. DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI DR Expert Mobo X1800 or X1900 XT graphics card if you can swing the extra cash.
Think about getting another harddrive to run in RAID 0; it'll improve the speed of your games, etc. Also make sure to sufficiently cool your rig.
Please note it may be slightly more since we're both used to US prices.
I apologise for any errors in dictation.
