Tonight in my inbox I have two unsolicited emails, each with a substantial .zip file they are trying to entice me to unzip. Here they are: First one is short and sweet. I never, of course, visited or registered for anything: From: someone From: postmaster@manheim.com Subject: Registration Confirmation Date: 22 November 2005 16:50:56 GMT To: Z-User@ionaircraft.com Account and Password Information are attached! ***** Go to: http://www.manheim.com***** Email: postman@manheim.com? Second one tries the "fright" tactic, but falls down badly on style, let alone being total garbage : From: someone From: Office@fbi.gov Subject: Your_IP_was_logged Date: 22 November 2005 16:50:56 GMT To: listening@ionaircraft.com
Dear Sir/Madam,
we have logged your IP-address on more than 30 illegal Websites.
Important: Please answer our questions! The list of questions are attached.
Yours faithfully, Steven Allison
*** Federal Bureau of Investigation -FBI- *** 935 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Room 3220 *** Washington, DC 20535 *** phone: (202) 324-3000? I am unconnected with any "ionaircraft". I guess these two are from the same source. Both attachments are 54.2kB, though they have different names. I am getting more things like this (attachment, please open) every week. Currently at least two per day. My question is: Is this happening to the rest of you, or am I unlucky, and my email address is being sold around ? How many do you get per week ? In fact I am on a Mac, so these things are almost certainly unable to hurt me, but the scammers don't know that.

I get to wade through about 100 unsolicited emails a day in my User Quarantine Release notification at work to find the one or two outside consulting and/or law firm emails that I legitimately need and which I am not allowed to white flag. About 30% have some kind of attachment.

I always get junk emails for deals on Viagra and ink jet cartridges...oh what a fun time that would be...if I were male and needed to print off pics of my newly swollen winky.
The email that I get about once a month is almost comical. It always comes from some United Emirates of something or other overseas and apparently I am the last living relative of some gazillionaire who has left me all his money. The only thing I need to do is give them my bank account info and set up an account overseas so they can deposit my riches. Yeah, Ok...I will get right on that. How anyone could fall for this is beyond me...

All I get are penis reduction e-mails, well since my wife became frightened at the prospect of enlargement and mailed the spammers an intimate photo, other than that my mail stays relatively clean with only 2-3 spam e-mails a week.
My work e-mail is another story I get over 250 a day and frankly I am thinking of reporting my constituents for spam violations and would if they didn't cleverly disguise their e-mails as work requests.

These are very sad times to be an American but where is the rage among the citizenry? Where are the flag wavers who so laud the freedoms symbolized by a flag and written by quill pens in our constitution? Why are we not rallying in the streets against this sort of attrocity? Why because we are gluttonous lazy bastards who say it won't happen to me so who cares. --Ishtar Pasteur
