Is anyone else here a big fan of the game, The Longest Journey? It came at a time when "adventure games" in the point-and-click vein of the classic King's Quest stories had already faded out, and introduced its own mythology, combining past and future, or fantasy and cyberpunk... and more! Now, a sequel, called Dreamfall, is on the way. The game's roots hail from Norway, where visionary Ragnar Tornquist has a wickedly delightful sense of humor. (He once liked it when I asked him when he and Neil Gaiman are gonna collaborate.)

Needless to say, even if you aren't into the story, the whole visual aspect of the game is sheerfully stunning. Lush environments, stark Stark (yes, that's the name of one of the places), and even fancy sushi bars. I found myself really getting immersed into the first game, so now, I'm looking forwards to the second.

There is info on the official website, but I find Tornquist's own website, including this entry about travels by hydrofoil, to be much more flavorful.

Played it years ago. On the surface, the look and feel of it screams "1996". Beneath the simple point and click gameplay is actually a really nice bit of storytelling, with a decent amount of humor tossed in. Its probably sitting in the bargain bin in alot of places, but its a nice way to kill a few days.

I played it, but my savegame got corrupted about 1/3 through, and I didn't feel like doing it over again.

My mom has played them both though, and she loved them.

Torley, I love you. I was trying to remember the name of that game a week or two ago, and couldn't. And yes, the game-play was point-and-click (almost Myst-ish), but then again action wasn't the point... the manual even explicitly states that there is no player 'death' in the game, at all. The story was one of the better ones I've seen for an RPG, very involving... I'm so happy to hear a sequel is coming. :)

I just hope there are no more 'assemble the trash and set a fire to make a threatening shadow to scare the guard' puzzles, though. :)

LOLEX... I was about to say Myst-ish too, I think we're on the same thotline here! That puzzle was completely nonsensical but it made me laugh so much.

The Longest Journey is the type of game I want more of, but if there was more, maybe it just wouldn't be all that special. I find it difficult to get involved in a game's unique setting, but TLJ really did it for me. What a memorable cast of characters.

Here's to hoping for an even better sequel.

Forgive me for bringing and old post back but I got a little excited when I saw this thread. Heh.

Just completed "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey" and really liked it. There's a few flaws but the story, sceneries, music, characters were a far greater plus. It has left me with several questions and drawing conclusions to some. I cannot wait to try the next journey. Depending on when that comes out though will depend on how well it sales based on a blog I read on some clarifications of rumors. I hope the next journey is much greater in depth and allows for different story directions to follow.

My favorite character of all is Crow, the guybird. And that spice merchant was Fan-tastic! Marvelous!

Anyone else give it a try?

Until SL, adventury type games where about the only ones I played. I dabbled in some RPGs, but they were the bread and butter of my gaming experience.

I basically played everything in that genre out there. Starting with the old faithful text adventures, through Kings Quest and most of the sierra games. Later the whole Myst series, the Microids (Benoit Sokal) series (Syberia etc.), and ofcourse stuff like the Atlantis series, The Longest Journey, and whatever else I came across ;)

All in all the Longest Journey scored as one of the best, when looking at story, immersion and logic and quality of the puzzles and problems.

I really hope some day to have time to play DreamFall, alas, till now I just didn't find the time to play it.

I can't play those games for 'just an hour', when I start them, they eat up days. ;)

I love games like that as well. However, I have not played a single game since installing SL!
