~Marketing Help & I Need a Name~

Ok so I have just been informed by my manager that at our yearly employee appreciation party in February we are going to be doing a take on The Apprentice. The people at all of our locations have been split up into groups and we are going to market a local non profit company that takes in stray dogs and finds them homes. They run off of donations alone and are very close to going under. The group with the highest amount received in donations will win.

I have never seen The Apprentice nor do I have any marketing skills but I have taken the position of doing anything art related because I want to be able to contribute something to this lol. We also need to think of a name for our group "company' and I don't want to end up being stuck as Team B or other such lameness. So I am asking all you fine people for any suggestions. The name doesn't have to be animal related or anything but it needs to stand out and be cool like shiny.

I would love to see you suggestions for a name and whatever else you all can help me with suggestions on how to market this and get some donations. Thanks!

Ok, I'm brainstorming here. First, send out letters to all of your local branches of grocery stores, super centers, pet stores, etc. Explain what you are doing, and ask if they would contribute.
Ask local groomers if they would participate in a dog grooming day (on a Saturday or Sunday). Set up a central location, and offer certain dog grooming services at lower the mormal fee. All the money paid for services goes into the donation pot.
Ask all of the local vet offices to donate and also set up donation pots on their front desk, if they don't already have one.
Set up a doggie fashion/product show, where dogs model clothing, toys, etc. Cost of admission is a donation.
Just a few ideas, but I'll keep thinking about it.

Ok, re marketing. Anything you can do to get radio stations and other media involved would be great. For example, if you have a dog show where radio and newspaper media show their dogs, they would publicize it themselves. Present it as "97.5 versus KOOV dogfight."

Dog Guards?

Well this is something we are to do with very little to no cost and I would think getting the radio involved would be quite pricey If it were spring or summer we could just have a car wash or something but being the middle of winter, after Christmas when most people are pretty tapped out, and people already making major donations to hurricane victims and other charities...the little doggies are getting forgotten. We have had donation boxes at work for almost a year and here we have only collected about $20 from people which is pretty sad.

Hold an auction where if people don't buy the dog, it gets put to sleep in front of them.

No, it wouldn't cost anything to get the radio stations involved. Call the station managers, and say:

"We wanted to host a charity event that pits radio station against radio station, but the winner would be whatever radio station has the best/most attractive/shiniest coat/best tricks/ugliest dog. Would your station be interested in participating?"

If you get one station to say yes, that's all you need. Most radio stations are already engaged in a friendly type of competition. And many people are animal lovers.

Then, since this is an event that they are actively participating in, they will tell their listeners to "come on down to Puppy Arena and see DJ Krissy and her pet poodle!"

Also, call your local newspapers. The fact that this company wants to help a local animal shelter, and in such a unique way, makes this a very newsworthy story. Trust me.
