That isn't news - it's history...

Buy it TODAY!

I would too - if I thought it would make a bit of difference to SL...

Hey Doc!

I spotted that last week while browsing that same website. I was a little surprised and then dissapointed that it was being released in such a low key manner.

They should've atleast sold it with a few games that support it. Rather than hope and pray that game companies will support it later. I wonder if they tried to get software companies to support it, and failed? Now they may just be releasing it regardless and hoping that people will buy it and pressure the game companies into patching some of their recent games.

It's not a good sign!!

Chicken and egg I guess Starax... :-(

I have seen demo clips from stuff that does support it, and the effects were incredibly lifelike. But the 'hardware physics' bit was what interested me. However, seeing LL can't even get Havok 2/3 to work with SL (or GLSL at present for that matter) somehow I can't see PhysX support being included even when (and if) it becomes a standard component of mainstream graphics cards.

Seen the spec?

Draping cloth
Foliage that moves when brushed against
530 Million/sec Sphere/sphere collisions (when SL grinds to a halt with a hundred!)
Smoke/Fog that billow round moving objects (no more prim clouds)
20 Billion IPS
Complex jointed figure geometery
Smart particles
Scaleable Terrain
Continuious collision detection

OK, it isn't going to happen in SL - but IF it did...

The Phys card would be on the SIM SERVERS if you are talking about SL

Its just a matter of time now that the hardware is available.
Take example from the GPU market and the constant push of new game titles that take them to the limit.

BFG also has the Physics card out too and you can get it from the Best Buy website for $299.99. Its been on sell for a few weeks, so it looks like BFG has the first one.

Looks like we enthusiasts should upgrade our power supplies too. That card has a secondary molex connector, right? I wonder if it draws as much power as a decent, high end Nvidia or ATI based card. Even better, what would be needed to run a PPU card and a SLI setup? Personally, I think Best Buy's 300w minimum is probably a bit weak.

What game/application do you hope to see utlize this card? I'm curious about how you would use it.

At this point, I find it to be an interesting piece of hardware. However, since there are only a couple of games that support the technology, I'll pass for now. I'll probably wait until at least next year before I get one.
