...thought of donating to an animal shelter?

Ok, I'll speak my mind...I love SL, but being the wicked person I am, I sometimes look at the humongous builds and 30,000-something sqmeters of land that people pay hundreds of dollars a month to maintain....and just have to wonder this....especially when I read something like this (found the page from volunteermatch.com): Animal rescue is very expensive ....

Here are people who are doing all of that from the kindness of their heart, helping animals that can't help themselves, and...knowing how screwed up this country is right now, knowing Bush isn't supporting non-profit organizations like this one....my heart cries. I can't donate much at all but I definitely will.

Maybe some of you get my drift  I'm just sending this subliminal, lol, suggestion in to the void....hope it reaches someone.

Thanks for reading :)

Why is it every bleeding heart instinctively blames Bush for everything? Next it'll be male pattern baldness. Can you prove that Bush isn't supporting NPOs like that one? And why exactly do our tax dollars need to go to supporting said NPO? What about those who may not agree with it?

Here's a thought...we've got tons of homeless animals here in the US...there are millions of starving people in Africa... See if you follow me here.

Or we could pass out the animals to Iraqi children. I'm sure that in this time of strife they could use the companionship and unconditional love a pet offers.

All that said, if there's a fund raiser, let me know and I'll add my 2L worth.

Haha, kiamat, nice post. I completely agree.

Personally, I'll donate to humanitarian problems, and then, if I have any money left, I'll help the animals. (EDIT) Maybe...

You can donate to whatever charity you want, that was just a suggestion. But why do these, and other charities, like environmental for example, always have to be overlooked?

Just because the environment or an animal can't speak or communicate their suffering, doesn't mean they should be put on the back burner.

Like this or not, but I believe that a part of why the world is messed up is because we think we're so above it all. We've nothing to lose by helping the innocent ones...they were here before us and once they're gone we're gone too. Pay your respects.

I believe you have inadvertantly stumbled on the solution to everyone's problems. Food banks are in constant need of supplies, and frequently run out of precious foodstuffs which the impoverished rely upon. Animal shelters are constantly cursed with a surplus of unwanted animals, who will inevitably be euthanized if not adopted. Thus, I think we can all agree that if we... wait! Calm down! Please put down the shotgun! I take it all back!

We found our cat when construction began on my uncle's house. The poor girl looked famished. My family took her in, fed her, and cared for her. Now she's a fixture in the house. I still miss her actually, as I moved out on my own. I just look forward to living in an apartment where I can have a cat again.

Being someone who prefers the company of animals over people more often than not...

Yes I donated to Animal Rescue (and the SPCA until they drove me mad with a bunch of unwanted spam snail mail), Money, Food, Medicine, Time and Love.

Yes I have 2 Full Rescued Kitties and 2 that I am keeping safe until they find a home. Not to mention rescued dogs, birds, raccoons, possum, iguana's, lizards, frogs, turtles, snakes and whatever else shows up at my doorstep here and needs food, attention and possibly re-location.

Thank you for pointing out that people are not the only ones that need help. In fact often, it is the over abundance of people that cause the animals to be displaced and nature to become unbalanced. Which is not good for people or animals.

I also try an rescue native plants, propagate them and try to place them back into the wild, particularly orchids and bromiliads.

Oh well... have to go for now because the cutest, furry, black male in the universe is looking at me like he wants me to open a can of tuna. You know, that hypnotic look that cats can give you and I am a slave to my critters. ;)

About 10 years ago, I got a beautiful 1 year old cat from an animal rescue centre, I took her home, but noticed that everytime I had a cigarette, she would run from whatever room I was in like a bat out of hell, puzzled by this, I rang the lady who ran the shelter my cat came from, who informed me that my lovely little friend had been badly treated at the place she was rescued from, cigarettes stubbed out on her, starved, hit etc, then about 5 months after I got her, Miska (meaning Little Mother), surprised me immensely, by jumping onto my lap, while I was mid ciggie and curled up there, purring contentedly, it had taken her a long time but, eventually, she had found her ability to trust :)

Unfortunately, when Miska was about 6 1/2 yrs old, her retina's ruptured, which left her blind, but she adjusted amazingly well and still carried on being her usual happy self, then 6 months later, she suffered a stroke, upon taking her to the vet, I discovered that she was actually closer to being 12 years old, he reckoned that the neglect in her early life had led to her being so small when I first got her and again she surprised everyone by making a brilliant recovery, then some months later, she suffered another stroke, which left her very debilitated and it was at that time, that I had to make the most painful decision of my life, I had to let her go, it broke my heart and I still get upset about it, but without that animal rescue centre, Miska would never have been in my life.

I still make regular donations to the same place, in the hope that it helps them to rescue other animals in the way they saved Miska before she came to me.

Also, I would like to think that "Rainbow Bridge" exists, as it's where I plan on meeting my little friend, when my time comes.

Really! Blaming Bush is silly! We should be blaming the greedy, heartless corporate CEO's that control every move that Bush makes! :p
