Average meaning what exactly?
If we were to take your thousands of posts and assume that you have covered a relatively small number of issues ( I mean of course that you often say similar things in different threads) then you might argue that your posts ON AVERAGE are fairly mediocre.
That aside, I often find your posts interesting, often thought provoking and somewhat unique in style - but on what grounds do you rate them as above average?

I'm curious how people perceive their own performance and how they perceive where the average is. In other words, I'm interested in seeing what the distribution of responses looks like. ~Ulrika~

But what are the metrics? My point is that an individuals perception of quality is meaningless.

Problem with this one is that people who will answer it truthfullt have no real idea WHAT impact thier posts have and cannot answer it effectivly.
Those who don't, choose PIE whether you offer it or not.
I for one, choose...

From: Cliffy Palmerstone My point is that an individuals perception of quality is meaningless. That's the very thing this poll was created to observe. Whether or not one's post is intrinsically of quality or not is unimportant to me. I'm interested in how people perceive the quality of their own posts relative to what they perceive as the average. No metrics are necessary as individuals will provide their own ad hoc to answer the survey. ~Ulrika~

I rated the quality of my posts as far above average. Why? Well, I think I generally present very coherent, carefully constructed, logical and well-thought-out ideas. I'm consistent. I'm witty. And yet, throughout it all, I somehow maintain an aura of humbleness and humility that I think others would do well to emulate. *solemn nod*

Well, so far as I can tell, no one has ever quoted any of my responses and/or felt a need to respond to any of my statements. Therefore, I have to reckon that either they are so brilliant they stand on their own with no need for further comment or are completely worthless. Frankly, I think I'm just as happy either way, ignorance being bliss and all. Char

From: Ashen Stygian you spelled ego wrong... it's E-G-O not P-O-S-T-S Oh ok, in that case, I believe I have an above average comprehension of my ego. For rather than just a add on to my vanity mirror, I recognize it as the necessary tool that it is. For being able to distinguish my essence from others. It is actually a synergistic virtual machine resulting from the simultaneous processing of my trillion cells. It helps put the "me" into telling the difference between my left and right. Sorry the random thing is sometimes inexplicably difficult to resist, did I say me?

From: Gabe Lippmann I disagree. Well to expound a little; my theory of quality (based on some unpublished research) leads me to conclude that quality is what you want it to be. Example: If I want to buy a new car, I could look for reviews, expert opinions, opinion polls and so on. However these are based on categorised heuristic metrics and those heuristics are defined by the expert, reviewer, poll writer etc. These metrics used may include (for example) value for money, durability, safety or whatever, but my own key criterion for purchase may simply be which one has the nicest colour. So it's all about fitness for purpose. My own reason for purchasing makes the opinions, reviews etc irrelevant because their measure of quality does not match my requirements...the definition of quality is what you want it to be. Another individuals opinion (or even a concensus) has validity but unless it matches my own, it is (for my purposes) completely subjective and meaningless.
