This rightly belongs here - it's not only the SL asset servers I swear at now!
My ISP offered the chance to upgrade to a 10Mb broadband for a one-off fee (I'm already paying the service charge but my old cable modem wouldn't cope with the extra bandwidth so I am paying for the installation of a butcher modem.
So the engineer turns up, installs the modem and it mostly looks OK.
I try to register my computer and modem set-up no joy. Phone the support line - they start talking me through the process and then say you just turn it all off, turn it all on again and you'll be away. I say thanks and hang up, turn off and turn on. Nothing. The help desk is now closed....
Fortunately for my SL addiction I can get in for the rest of the weekend on my old modem which they didn't take away.
Monday morning ring support again. Talk through the process and try again - no joy. The problem "Our asset server isn't registering your attempt to conenct, I'll enter you manually from this end."
Ten minutes later it really is done and I'm surfing at super-speed (if only the SL asset servers were this friendly when tickled properly!) but you can probably guess my reaction when I heard that dread phrase 'asset server problems'!
