A nice break from the endless deluge of christianity we've had to endure in this forum lately. Granted the link still concerns religion but it's everyone's favorite (Buddhism) mixed with a little science. The experience of consciousness is entirely subjective. The joy of meeting someone you love, the sadness of losing a close friend, the richness of a vivid dream, the serenity of a walk through a garden on a spring day, the total absorption of a deep meditative state—these things and others like them constitute the reality of human experience. And all of these experiences—from the most mundane to the most elevated—have a certain coherence and, at the same time, a high degree of privacy, which means that they always exist from a particular point of view. From: someone Can we envision a scientific methodology for the study of consciousness whereby a robust first-person method, which does full justice to the phenomenology of experience, can be combined with the objectivist perspective of the study of the brain?
Huh?

Perhaps one of the most important unanswered questions in the study of human experience.
Application of physical science principles to the natural world has produced wonders beyond measure. Attempted application to the human mind and society has been disastrous.

Sweet Buddha, we blew it. I was hoping she'd go for Quakerism. At least some of you did The Buddha was a rich, privileged prince, who, upon facing the crushing responsibility of a wife and young child in his 'difficult' situation, went out to find some 'answers' with the guys. It didn't really work, but he got away from home at least. Finally, enough inspiration came to him that enabled him to roam around with his posse and do pretty much whatever he wanted for the rest of his life. His fantastic weight gain during later years is pretty well documented, and 'rubbing his belly' is still considered good luck to this very day. Arguably, he was the most successful deadbeat dad in the history of mankind. Skipping down the middle path, - Desmond Shang http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gautama_Buddha
