I can't implement this myself, but it's something I want by the year 2008. Here's the idea, you make it, you can run with it.
I would pay a registration fee of up to $5 a year for a service that would combine all my little key ring tags, frequent buyer, bonus buyer, gold buyer BS into one card and/or tag.
I have many keys and just as many tags I have to have in order to get that special "insder" price on my purchases at the grocery store, electronic store, candle store, pharmarcy, you name it, I got it. If one tag did it all, it would be wonderful.
I envision this working maybe via a web site, I enter in all the numbers on each tag and I am sent a "universal tag" that automatically switches between each place I am going.
  I hope this is doable.

MS Passport anyone? There's also that newfangled FOSS project, I forgot the name... it was on slashdot the other day.

Too many key-ring tags? Perhaps you should take a break from your excessive consumption.

i've also wanted to see this for quite a while now.. on the other hand, there are many who would tell you that such a thing could tentively be construed as "the number of the beast". that thing which must be worn on the hand (a card of some type?) or the forehead (iris scanner or some such thing), so maybe.. maybe we should just stick with multiple stuff? lol.. but i digress.. i'm sure we'll see this progress more globally as time continues.. drivers liscences have now started switching over to digital/scannable versions which can hold all types of info. scary at first glance, but could be helpful say for.. a car crash victim who's unconscious and has special medical needs? so, no.. sorry, i can't get this done for you; however, i'm sure someone will.. and 2008 may not be too early of a date to expect it to start.

Universal mandatory fingerprinting, DNA sampling, full body scanning with various imaging methods, plus mandatory implantation of SPIT (Subcutaneous Personal Identification Transmitters) devices would probably be able to solve this problem.

I had the same idea a while ago, looking at some lady pull out mammoth-overstuffed-keychain-of-death full of fobs and tags for video stores, supermarkets, and other stores.
Hopefully something intelligent - like a programmable key that emits different radio frequencies for different products, encrypted with different keys - and thus no system has access to all the info

I recommend that you throw all of them away and refuse to shop at stores that use these bonus card type things. They're a complete scam and an invasion of privacy used for collecting data to sell to third parties. They also don't save you any money. I did some volunteer research for nocards.org a couple of years ago. I bought the exact same grocery list at three different stores. Two of the stores used bonus cards and the third did not. Regular non-sale prices at the two card stores were as much as 50% higher per item than the no-card store. Sale items at the bonus card stores were about the same price as the regular non-sale prices at the no-card store. It's bullshit. You're paying more across the board for your items so the bonus card is actually costing you money, not saving money. You're paying that extra money so the store can invade your privacy and generate additional profit by selling their databases to third parties. I flatly refuse to shop at any store that uses bonus cards. Using false information when you sign up for the cards doesn't work. As soon as you buy something there with your credit card the system will automatically correct the information on your bonus card registration. People really need to start standing up and saying no to this kind of shit.
