After so many centuries of constraint among the soft bounties and wildness, we are now free in a hard, gleaming age, with the patter and squeek of little robot wheels underfoot. A deep voice is no longer necessary, I float light as a feather in the morning sun; but delight escapes me. I forgot to bring my party dress.

The two thousand pieces of me drift aimlessly. Is the true me the sum of them, more than them, or none of them? The flotsam of a million years congeals like coal dust in my mind.
