Is this both sad and Bizarre at the same time. Its not something I have ever heard of before does it seem to others that an increase in birth defects is more prevalent or is it that we have more media coverage of it.

I don't think it's so much an increase in birth defects worldwide, as an increase in availability and efficacy of prenatal and postnatal medical care... many babies come to term with deformities that would have killed them in the womb, and many live on with deformities that would have killed them soon after birth.

yep, I think thats pretty much it. Not only are babies born now that wouldn't have survived in past times, we ARE able to hear about it more often because of a worldwide media and because no longer do people hide things like that for superstitious reasons.
