I saw that too.

While it got me to cock an eyebrow, it didn't make me them more or less seriously. It's the manner in which they present themselves "verbally", in whetever venue, which concerns me.

I am thinking that others may not feel the same as I do though...

The effect it has will totally depend on the prejudices of the person you're talking to though.

Do you think nudity in an adult online computer game is on par with child sexual abuse? I would never presume to minimize child sexual abuse that way but I guess there are those who would.

Also, I'd hope to be taken seriously while talking about child sexual abuse even if my head was on fire and cheetahs were playing Canasta with my spleen. The actual message would be the important thing, I think, not whether I was naked or on fire or amusing big dotty kitities.

Also, I really have no idea what the heck brought this poll on, but I'm going out on a limb and assuming that it's got... something to do with the recent spate of 'I seen this and it's WRONG WRONG WRONG' we've had cropping up in the forums recently. So, assuming this, and further assuming that the nekkid profile piccie belongs to someone who's been involved in the hooraw, I'll have to go with 'profile pics mean a lot less than someone being able to communicate effectively and sanely'.

What she said. Is the very serious message concerning sexual abuse of children diminished in any way because you dont like something the messenger did? Sounds like deflection away from the issue to me.

Well, isn't it against the rules tho to be nudie in your profile? I guess, since we've been talking about law, morality, rules and what is against the rules/law it kinda fits in in that respect.

I agree that child sexual abuse is a very serious issue. Children should not be on the adult grid in SL and if one knows of children on the adult grid, one should ensure Lindens know about their whereabouts for their own protection.

Also all pornography that is exploitative should be viewed as the soul-warping stuff that it is (even playboy has been shown to lower men's satisfaction with their wives). These are very serious issues.

That said, if I were going to take on a cause, say cancer research, as a spokesperson for that cause, I likely wouldn't be smoking at the podium.

Do I think nudity is on par with child sexual abuse? No, and it is a pretty big leap logically to assume that was what is meant.

Well, the nude in question (yeah, I guessed who was being referred to and looked it up) isn't exactly what I'd call pornographic... I've seen worse on broadcast television. No idea if it's against TOS or whatnot. If it had been something graphic (something that would get an IRL X-rating, say) then I could see it damaging their credibility, though.
