I was reading a thread in the General forum that got closed and it posed the question of what this symbol meant and I don't believe the question was answered.

It's an upside down (the program used saves them as upside down, and I'll say no more) "error/warning symbol", you see it when youcan't rez something, for example.

Can you say a little more? I didn't understand the first half. Thanks. :\ There is a flaw (erm let's call it a security issue) in the way opengl renders stuff, it's not exactly in line with the SL permissions system. _____________________

There is a flaw (erm let's call it a security issue) in the way opengl renders stuff, it's not exactly in line with the SL permissions system. No more a flaw, really, than the fact that playing a CD in a room produces sound that you can then record with a microphone. Just... inconvenient for SL purposes. _____________________

Soooo, there's a permission bug/exploit? Does LL plan on telling us this anytime soon?? it's not really anything they can do much about, without jumping through tons of hoops, besides, stealing textures has always been an issue in sl. You can open the objects edit menu and print screen its texture, grant it, itll be a 62x62 pixel preview of it and look like a blur, but nothing is fool proof. _____________________

This is a rerun. I read it already. This thread is simply asking what that symbol means. _____________________

Soooo, there's a permission bug/exploit? Does LL plan on telling us this anytime soon?? Again, only in the same way (since I've used the one analogy) that the nature of a book means you can copy it with a photocopier. However, the program in question is not an amateur-friendly thing, and while it does allow you to capture any texture sent to your video card (an important distinction, since you'll only ever see the baked textures of avatars, not the components) it really does capture every texture. And every version of every texture. Let me put it this way, I had 4,000 files in the images folder after running it for a minute. (No, really, a minute.) _____________________

Yay, let's advertise the exploits to all the would-be texture thieves. Brilliant idea!

Yay, let's advertise the exploits to all the would-be texture thieves. Brilliant idea! Reverse enginnering opengl is really not an easy task to do. Print screening on the other hand, is easy, but it works very poorly. It's usually just easier to make your own textures or hire a texturer, than trying to steal the images sent to your vid card or recreate them from a 62x62 pixel preview. I really don't think it is too big of a security risk, yet. _____________________
