Wish I had $7.4 billion to spare; I'd buy Pixar, too.

Disney blows their relationship with Pixar.

Pixar says, fine, we'll go off on our own. Disney execs shit in their pants.

Disney shareholders boot the idiot who ruined the Pixar relationship.

Disney's new CEO says he wants to fix the Pixar relationship.

Disney buys Pixar for $7.4 billion.

--

I'm split on this. I follow the animation industry pretty closely because I'll soon (like 1-2 years soon) be attending an animation school that places graduates with Pixar and Dreamworks.

I don't particularly like Disney any more; everything they've put out in the past 10 years has been crap except for Lilo & Stitch and anything by Pixar. But, I'm somewhat relieved because it means that Disney won't mangle the sequels they were planning for Nemo, Toy Story and the Incredibles, since they had made plans to make sequels w/o Pixar.

Anyway, I just read the story on CNN and had to post something somewhere, as my wife isn't home to complain to right now. :)

Pixar rules. I'm glad they bought them back. A non-Pixar Nemo or Incredibles, etc., would be a travesty.

I'm rather bummed out by this news. I think breaking free from Disney would have been the best thing to ever happen to Pixar.

They have no responsibility to pay that out if there's an error and they lose your $L. :D ;)

Agreed. Disney is no longer in the "Imagineering" business. They are run by suits who just put out lots of cookie cutter crap. All they seem to do is recycle classics into new, by the numbers crap. In time, Pixar will be ruined by Corporate Disney.

the news reports are over stating Job's gains by this move. It's not a move up so much as it is a lateral move. He's changing stocks from one company to another, but the slight gains are not anywhere near what the headlines claim.

The move is fine - as long as Pixar is allowed to develop their films independently. Mike was the root of most issues facing Disney, so maybe the slump is over.

Actually, Steve Jobs will now how more Disney stock than any individual in the world.

That's what I feel deep inside... I was SO happy when Pixar announced they were going their own way -- they would have had studios banging their door down to distribute their films. But this was sort of bittersweet news. Bitter in that it appears Pixar caved to the almighty dollar, and sweet in that at least I know the same people will do the same great work and create great films in the future. I'm just upset it will be "all-Disney" now.

One step better would be to use machinima to become the next Pixar and sell it for $7.4B. Selling is better than buying :)
