I dunno, a few things about that picture seem odd to me.

For one, there doesn't appear to be any damage to the boat itself... If the car was moving fast enough to bridge that distance with that amount of drop, I would think there would be more damage, both to the car and the boat.

For another, note that the teather is slack... That weight distribution should put downward pressure on one side of the boat, causing the boat to drift away from the pier... resulting in a tensed rope, not a slack one.

A few spots have peculiar blurs... note the grey-white blur on the bottom of the door frame, for example.

I'm thinking fake?

It looks real to me - like the car was stopped with its front wheels on the boat, the boat started to slowly drift out, car was not in park (could be a manual transmission and was not in gear either), car drifted with the boat, coming to rest on its bumpers. But, I could be wrong, don't have my glasses on, either :D

Dude, where's my car?
Dude, you wedged it between the boat and the dock.
Man, I guess I should have fixed the parking brake.

fake or real?

then again.. check out the window that the front of the car is up against, you can see the blinds inside the boat are pushed according to the position of the car's nose.. and there's no glass in it, possibly due to shattering?

the shadows look to match up between the boat, car, woman and the rest of the picture.

i see the little blur, but it looks like it's either something moving or a slight smudge/spot of water on the lens.. or possibly on the window (or whatever it is) that the picture is taken from. (see? look in the top corners.. is that the edges of a port-hole? a lens cover? hmm..)

and it's possible that the boat isn't out further because the car is acting as an anchor keeping it from floating out further.

sure.. she's dry, but she may have crawled out and over the car to dry land. or maybe she isn't the driver? just having a friend take a picture to show friends back home?

whatever the specifcs, i'd say it's real.. i'm just not sure how such an odd thing happened.

That is odd looking. Certainly not a porthole from that angle, I would think.

I thought the rope might not even be tied to anything, but it is seriously easy to move a boat and the impact of the car....idk....i don't care, it looks funny.

They didn't drive the thing into that position obviously. I've always thought it happened exactly how Joy explained it. It rolled, hit the boat, the boat started floating out further... and use your imagination from there.
