I guess that makes sense. Both of them make overpriced systems whose performance can be met or beat by home-brewed machines that don't have to bear the price overhead of a name brand badge on the case.
![]() Any bets on how long Alienware actually remains a seperate division, before being absorbed into the collective? |

Interesting, especially after they bitched and bitched a few weeks ago about how all those "untrue rumors" of a possible merger might hurt their business. I've always been a fan of Alienware, and I do think their aquisition into Dell will be a good thing for them, but I've lost a lot of respect for them over their handling of this. You don't go around saying something's not true and then do it, especially when you've got "Clearly communicate intentions and expectations to your customers and co-workers" and "Be open and direct" listed as core values in your mission statement.

Well I guess its quite an expected move for dell to eat up their immediate competitors in the gaming arena. Their XPS systems are seriously right on the neck with the Alienware systems, till now. Moreover, its a bid for a bigger market share against Voodoo, falcon & HP within the gaming market as well.
Oh well, only time will tell whether the aquiration will bring up about or tarnish the alienware name (maybe as delienware in the future!) |

The last system I ever "bought" was an old Pentium 200 Mhz system from Packard Bell. Now if it was only as cheap & easy to buy & build laptops/notebooks. _____________________

ALIENWARE IS AWSOME, DELL SUX. ALIENWARE + DELL = STUPID @SS COMPANY AND EVEN HIGHER PRICES. I think the alien-ware computers are pretty cool ad their prices match their better then home brewed computers. ALIENWARE is a gaming computer and i am getting one but dell is taking over a great company. Now i hope it doesn't sux.

ALIENWARE IS AWSOME Alienware is at best average. Their machines are stupidly over-priced for perfectly average parts. I think the alien-ware computers are pretty cool ad their prices match their better then home brewed computers. Their computers, I assure you, are not better than home-built by computers built by anyone who knows even remotely what they are doing. ALIENWARE is a gaming computer and i am getting one but dell is taking over a great company. Now i hope it doesn't sux. No. Alienware is a rich people computer. Gaming does not enter in to it. _____________________

In fairness, this may have been contractual. Some aquisitions demand that things like this be kept secret until its done. _____________________

I predict in under a year Dell will completely absorb Alienware into their collective, then change the name of their high-end computer XPS Series to the Alienware Series for brand-name recognition purposes.
Like many in this thread, I recommend just building your own machine. Alienware computer are cool and all, but unless you are a rich, computer-illiterate kid, you really don't need one. You are paying an exorbinant amount for a brand-name, as well as for support that you really don't need if you have basic computer troubleshooting skill. When you make your own system, you get to choose every part, you'll save money, and you'll get a better understanding of how your system works. If you want a cool looking system, there are plenty of cool cases out there you can buy, or if you can go get a generic beige case, then pimp it out with a metal-cutting jigsaw, some plexiglass, and some spray paint. _____________________
