Okay so they are saying that the price of a barrel of oil is cheaper than it has been in over a year...Why am I still paying out the a$$@#$%? WTF?

Also, by virtue of some contract entered into with the oil companies and our gov't, which states they get certain tax breaks if they keep drilling in federal waters, these greedy f#%$ stand to profit another 700 billion because of it. I say they need to renegotiate those contracts of 10 years ago. I'm tired of paying for their luxury. You can't blame this one on the SUV's.

Well, I'm currently paying about US$2.17 for unleaded, as opposed to about US$3.15 back in September. So it has come down somewhat.

I do long for $1 gas again, though.

Ooooh $2.17 is CHEAP** - currently paying $2.33 (it went down 2 whole cents!!). For some reason, though, our gas prices never went over $3.00/gal for unleaded in September - and our gas prices are generally some of the highest in the nation (Oregon coast = middle of nowhere, I guess)

** EDIT: It doesn't take long for $2.00/gallon to be considered cheap, huh?

it's $2.25 here, a year ago when it is supposedly now cheaper, we were around $1.50 to $1.75, so if it's cheaper for them, why are we paying more?

What's needed is a comprehensive mass transit system for the entire country.

We won't get that, though. While others were building rail lines, we built highways.

While both systems have their shortfalls, rail lines are much more efficient, and leads to more compact development. You can walk most of Amsterdam. You can't walk Los Angeles.

i'd kill to be able to ride my bike to campus and to work, or, failing that, take the train. Alas, I have to drive 40 minutes to campus and 20 minutes to work.

Gas by me (SE Michigan) is around $2.30.

This past Monday, I drove 90 miles South to Toledo, OH - and it was $2.02.

I'm assuming much of that 28 cent difference is in taxes. :(

but you guys are used to paying that much for fuel ;) - we're too used to low gas prices and very little public transportation...
