Heck I can't get worked up about self-torture as a means of worship. I'm Lakota. My people practice the sundance, which involves piercing the flesh on the pectorals or back and being tied by leather thongs to a tree, and dancing in the sun (100 degrees F or hotter sometimes) until the thongs break through the flesh, then receiving a vision (hopefully). To each his own.
