So what's the deal with romance?

Hey,

I'm new to the forum and I want to know if anyone has ever dated or met the love of their life on Second Life? Do characters fall in love? I'm really fascinated to know since I heard something about a couple actually marrying through the site. Has anyone got their own story of 'romance'? I'm intrigued!

My SL partner is my RL partner. We met in Sims Online and migrated here, although we both still play TSO.

Yes, we have met in first life, and hopefully in due course it will become a permanent official arrangement although US immigration procedures do not make it easy for legitimate relationships and those who wish to follow the proper legal channels in such matters.

Two of my very best friends got married recently. They met in SL at a Tringo game, carried on an online love affair and finally decided they needed to meet. The problem was, she was in Canada and he was in the UK. But distance is no obstacle to love :)

She's now living with him in UK and they're expecting their first child. I love telling their story :)

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. Lewis - I'm intrigued by your story. Sorry to sound completely dumb but what's a TSO?!

So where do you both live - obviously in different countries when you mention US migration? And how did you actually meet? Why did you migrate from The Sims - is Second Life a lot better?

Gawd, sorry for all the questions.

TSO = The Sims Online

Razor and I also met in TSO (The Sims Online) and after hours of online time and hours on the phone we met in RL. He lived 2 states away and after a few visits he moved in and as much of a cliche it is, we are living happily ever after.
As of September 2 we will have been together 3 years. 3 years since we met that is.

When you meet online first one thing I think you have on your side is you get to know the person from all the communicating you do with phone and online converstations. Physical sort of takes a back seat for a bit and you really get to know each other. I knew before I even met Razor in Rl that I was in love with him.

The Sims Online - another online computer game. http://sims.stratics.com for a 14 day trial download, and official forums.

I'm in England, she's in New Jersey, just over from Philadelphia.

At the airport? :D Actually we first met in a picture thread on the Sims Stratics message forums, people were posting pictures of themselves, I saw hers and thought I'd like to get to know her, and apparently she did the same... we met in-game eventually, hung out a bit, things grew, then we started talking on Yahoo etc, and finally decided to first meet last September. Since then I've been back several times, and hopefully soon she'll get over here soon to visit the UK. There's a picture of us inside my store if you check the location on my signature.

We both still play Sims Online, although I play SL more now than TSO. They're both very different styles of game, SL is more freeform with the ability to build anything (my main reason for being here) whereas TSO is more structured with actual attainable goals and more of a challenge.

No problem.

Hey Cindy,

Wow - that's amazing! I want to hear the whole story! How old are they? Can you tell me their SL names - not sure about the etiquette on here. Do you think they'd be interested in telling their story to a UK women's glossy magazine? It's so unusual.

Kitty, SL isn't necessarily a dating service, its just a place to hang out and meet people

Don't hold on. Go get strong. Or don't you know there's no modern romance?

That's true. I have no desire to partner up someone else in-world. I don't even understand the appeal. Not that there's anything wrong with it, 'course.
