This has got to be one of the best game trailers I've ever seen. Check it out.

For anyone unfamiliar with the upcoming Hellgate: London, it's the new project from Flagship Studios, the company formed by Bill Roper and the other bigwigs who left Blizzard a little while back. These are the guys who brought us Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft from the ground up. Blizzard currently is nothing but a shell of its former self without these people.

The game itself looks incredible. Bill Roper calls it "a fully randomized RGP... but in a first person view." In other words, it's not a typical shoot 'em up FPS, but a full on RPG that focuses on character development. I think of it kind of like a 3D first person version of Diablo in a modern/futuristic setting. Normally I'm not a big fan of first person shooters, but I love RPG's and I'm going a little stir crazy waiting for this one. I think it's gonna breath some much needed newness into the PC gaming market, which has otherwise been a pretty boring "more of the same" type of environment for the past year or two.

There's a really good artical on it here with a nice little video interview with Bill Roper. Still no release date though

Oh well, that's always been the story with these guys, "It'll be ready when it's ready." Frustrating, but always worth the wait.

With that sometime next year, and Oblivion coming out sometime soon... it might be a good year for RPGs

Oblivion looks great. Those screenshots are pretty impressive. It's disappointing that there's no multiplayer though.

Come to think of it, I haven't played an Elder Scrolls game since Battle Spire if you can believe it. That was like 1997 I think. I almost picked up Morrowind the other day. Maybe you bringing up Oblivion now is a sign I should go back and get it. Now I have to spend money, dammit.

The hellgate trailer looks nice. Don't know what you think is so special about it?

That gear of wars screeny could be ingame, but that is definatly not the camera position in wich we will play it.
