If anyone has prefs or suggestions, I'd love to hear them! :) Thought buying it was gonna be easy, but SO many choices!

Seriously, Second Life. Try it. You can draw with prims, and take snapshots. For best results use a HUD attachment point. I've made a shitload of textures like that, with some GIMP work for alpha channels and stuff.
GIMP is free: http://gimp.org/

ty Ghoti...

as for Ovum...nopers..NOT SL..>>>>>

can see doing great graphics design with an avi and TONS OF LAG as being fun/challenging..at times..but DEFINITELY not the best! And yes..I've already tried SL's software for doing an abundance of things...(forget how you phrased 'abundance')

assuming there were some professional graphics design folk playing on SL who might want to suggest great software they use, I welcome suggestions..tyvm

Well lag is in the eye of the beholder ;)
It's still good when you have something already made and just want to cut down on prims.

I use Macromedia FreeHand and Adobe PhotoShop mostly. But would recommend Adobe Illustrator as well, since it can do everything FreeHand does plus integrate with PhotoShop nicely.

Also Adobe has nice packages geared toward certain professions - so you can get a bunch of programs at a price less than it would be to buy them separately.

Yes...I've had more than a few votes for Adobe and Illustrator and liked them both after I reviewed them. But do want to get a few more opinions/ideas before I buy them. They're a bit expensive, but then buying a second software package because the first just doesn't do everything you want would be more so...

And since I'm not a professional graphics designer..but a hobbyist here..I wouldn't even know the features to look for, really, but would only find out after hobbying a bit that I coulda/shoulda/woulda bought a different package :)
