I decided to give this new first-person shooter a try because the trailer I saw for it over a year ago scared the crap out of me.
Well, so does the game. I don't know how far I am into the game, but I've been playing for about 2 hours and the plot is very very slowly unravelling. Reviews said its a very long game, and I'm looking forward to it.
I get a bigger scare out of video games like this than "horror movies" in the theater or at home. Something about the interactivity. And probably my surround sound speakers, too, with all the lights out with a force-feedback seat cushion.
If you like 1st person shooters, be sure to check this one out, it really is good -- and scary!

I've not played this, but I read through the storyline. My kinda thing... the sort of psychic aparitions and all that spooky goodness.

Yeah, games like this play right into my bipolar! I'm happy cause I'm alive one second, then depressed cause I got killed -- again. Love it!

I played the demo, that first part creeped me out! Then I kept going with sound off. But I love the SLO-MO feature! I'll buy when I can.

Yeah, its much more scary than Doom 3 ever was. I've been playing it off and on since it came out.

Damn right!!. Its the scariest game ever, but I've only played the demo though. I've played lots of FPS games. I found Doom3 to be annoying, rather than scary. But F.E.A.R is probably the first game I've played that had me wanting to drop down into the fetal position. At one point I found myself laughing out loud at how pathetic I was being for being so scared. Although having said this, I did find myself tuning into it, and by the end of the demo, I think I was ready for anything. No really, I'm tough... I am!!... Honestly!!!

I played this through to the end and liked it. It dragged somewhat in the middle, but the ending was pretty decent. Nice atmosphere.
The AI is truly amazing. While still nothing like a human, the game has hands-down the smartest and most *interesting* bots I've ever seen in a game.
One thing I liked was that the ending made everything make sense. Lots of things which I chalked up as being just psycho-babble ended up making perfect sense after the ending. The game is gratifyingly self-consistent.

I beat it and i'm considering playing through again on a higher difficulty... it was a lot of fun throughout. I loved how all the weapons were viable throughout the whole game, made it so you didn't *have* to switch to the better one when it came otherwise you'd lose.. but you still had to make desisions about what your arsenal would be. I loved the shotgun so much... tricking the soldiers into coming after me then hitting them point blank with slow motion on... ^_^ Fantastic atmosphere, great AI, good plot, good level design... and you *need* to play with the sound on, even if it freaks you out

Does anyone know if there's a deeper connection between Leo Jankowski in F.E.A.R. and another character by the same name in Deus Ex: Invisible War? Seems like more than a coincidence but I haven't been able to dig up anything.

Hmm... other than the name I don't know if there is any link...
In Deus Ex 2, he was the one who joined with the Omar and underwent all the biomodification right? I'll have to think about it, I was going to play through that game again too soon.

Not having a DX3 led me to SL, in part having seen an article featuring Nexus Prime... funny how things work out.

From: Torley Torgeson Does anyone know if there's a deeper connection between Leo Jankowski in F.E.A.R. and another character by the same name in Deus Ex: Invisible War? Seems like more than a coincidence but I haven't been able to dig up anything. That's a good observation. There doesn't *seem* to be any connection, alas. I won't give anything away about the plot, but various things happen with the character and none of them seem to have anything to do with DX2. However, like all things in F.E.A.R., you kind of have to look for it carefully and nothing is spelled out, so I could have missed a lot. I don't believe the companies have had any work relation to each other either.

•••• From: Monty Python Meanwhile, in Washington, at the headquarters of F.E.A.R. - the Federal Egg Answering Room - in reality a front name for F.E.E.B.L.E. - the Free World Extra-Earthly Bodies Location and Extermination Centre - all was not well.
